Getting rid of ants

We've recently done a lot of work in our garden and I think it's disrupted an ants nest as we've suddenly developed an ant problem in our kitchen. I have two young children so can't put down any ant killer in the kitchen. What on earth do I do to get rid of them? Help! It's getting worse by the day.

Can you put it down in the garden? We found the best and poured powder down it. And could you use the traps instead maybe?

Nest not best

Good idea putting it in the garden. I think I know roughly where they are coming in so can give that a go. I squirted a 50:50 vinegar solution around the edge of the floor last night and it killed the ants but more have reappeared today so I'll double attack them on both sides of the kitchen wall.

Have never heard of ant traps so will have a look at that also. Thank you!

You can use Nippon spray but you'd need to do it at night when the children are in bed and it should be fine in the morning. We've found it's the only thing that worked.

Oh great! I'll try that. Thank you!

The ant traps are meant to make the workers take poisoned bait back to their nest and kill the queen 😂 but since we just poured ant killer all over the nest we’ve not needed to use them

Boiling water on the nest outside works well. Otherwise the little plastic traps work well as prevention but not so well once you have full infestation.

The problem is, due to my dh constructing a temporary pallet decking outside the kitchen (until we can get the patio laid) there are no obvious signs of an ants nest. It must be under the pallets. The pallets go almost right up to the back of the house and I can't see where the little buggers are getting in. I'm assuming it's near to the washing machine and tumble drier as this is where they mainly congregate when they come into the kitchen. Maybe we could pull the washing machine and tumble drier out and put ant killer there, and get some along the outside wall as well. Thanks for some great suggestions, everybody.

A mixture of baking powder and icing sugar works wonders. The theory behind it is that the sugar makes the ants pick up the baking powder and the baking powder makes the ants explode. I have no idea if this is true, but I end with ants in the house every summer and this always gets rid of them.

Ant bait stations. They work amazingly well. Nippon are a good make and Ant Stop. I used to have them in my kitchen every year...…. fingers crossed the new patio has buried them.
