Paint still smells weeks later

Kitchen was painted early April with a wipeable paint - strong fumes for a few days, despite it supposedly being a low VOC paint, but I guess that was to be expected. But now it’s nearly two months later and I can still smell the chemically paint smell. It’s especially noticeable if we’ve been out for a few hours or when we first come down in the morning. Our tiny kitchen window has been left open when we can, but is there anything else we can do to deal with the stink? (NB there’s a carbon monoxide monitor in the kitchen which seems to be fine, so it’s not that.)

Was it bought new or had it been opened before? DH is a decorator and he can smell when a paint has been open and gone off

Bought new, as far as I know - it was a decorator who did it and he colour-matched the paint for us (the Johnstones one that’s meant to be good for kitchens).

We had Johnstone's paint recently and I'd be reluctant to use it again as it was SO strong it gave us all headaches and sore throats. It took a good month for the smell to go and that was with windows opened daily.

I painted my utility on Tuesday and it still stinks. My plug in dont even mask it.

I kept smelling paint weeks after it had been decorated it was awful. Turns out I was pregnant the thought never crossed my mind as I was 39 and never been pregnant before.

I know that a halfed onion left on a plate gets rid of the smell of gloss paint but might work with emulsion too

BabCNesbitt · 03/06/2019 06:12

Definitely not pregnant Grin May try the onion thing - it can’t be any worse than the paint smell!

I had most of my house painted 3 weeks ago and the paint smell was gone almost as soon as it dried, mixture of Dulux and Valspar. Have you spoken with your decorator?
