Steam mop or spray mop ?

Which is better ?
A steam mop or a spray mop ?
My Morphy Richards steam one has died and is out of warranty. Angry
It didn't last long and only had light usage.
I had a Vax which also died young - it was heavy to use.
I've never used a spray mop so I don't know if they are comparable.

Any recommendations please ?
Money is tight.
Whatever UK Mumsnetters recommend I will have to add on at least 20% - I call it the "because I live in Ireland tax".

Has anyone got a subscription to Which and could check for me what their £40 recommendation is please as tested in March 2018.
Because they are UK based and so much of their info was of no use to me, I let my subscription lapse.
I know it's a cheeky ask. Blush

What *Load& said, I've had one for 4 years that I keep filled with method wood flood cleaner/polish, and another filled with Flash or some other such thing for the kitchen floor. I've bought 5 extra pads so I can swap them out until there are enough to be their own load of washing.

I took my steam mop back to Lakeland as the handle was broken but I'm glad it was because it smeared the floor horribly. The only way to get it half decent was to mop it thoroughly first, so it became a double chore and a waste of space.

Having said that I do think the old mop and bucket cleans far better than even a spray mop. I've used the refillable one for s fee years and find it feels like washing with a kitchen cloth without wringing it out and rinsing it regularly. So it's not so good at the end of the floor cleaning iyswim.

The Vileda spray mop is brilliant, cheap and so easy to use. I have a steam cleaner (cylinder vac style) and it is great for nooks and crannies and greasy things like the cooker hood but far too much faff for every day use, by the time you've filled it with water, plugged it in and waited for it to heat up you could be finished mopping with the Vileda.

Since I bought one of these my steam mop hasn't left the cupboard.

Spray mop! Bought a steam one and used it twice before selling it. It didn’t clean anything. Spray mop is great. Buy loads of extra pads so you always have a clean one available.

Old mop and bucket get a good mop.and change frequently

A mop and bucket just swishes the dirty water around the kitchen floor ??
You put clean water in a bucket, squeeze the mop in it and wash the floor. Then you squeeze the dirty water from the mop back into the bucket?
I know The Range sell two compartment buckets so at least most of the dirt mop water goes in a separate compartment.
I thought a steam mop might be more hygienic?

I don't see it that way OP, having tried all three methods these are my findings:

Steam mop. Love the idea that it zaps everything but it left smears and dirt behind so the only way to have it LOOK clean was to mop it first, which kind of felt like defeating the purpose. It was clean then, so why steam it when I'm going to walk over it and not actually eat my dinner off the floor?

Spray mop. Love the idea that you can refill it and just grab and go, but if you do a large surface area you soon look to clean before you continue. Gets messy when ripping cloths off and is a pain to wash in the machine (do you wash it alone or with towels or bath mats or bedding...)

Mop and bucket. Don't like the idea as it's an old one and you have to lug a bucket around, but honestly, after plunging the mop in it once or twice you'll be glad to throw that black water out and start again when you're only a third of the way through the cleaning. It leaves such a satisfied clean sense afterwards that I'm sorry to say I didn't get with spray mops and even less with steam one.

Hope that helps!
