Hi all
Can anyone recomend a washable / reuseable kitchen cloth? I currently use antibac spray + kitchen roll.
I use microfibre cloths in bathroom but feels wrong using them in kitchen! Not sure why!!

I just use dish cloths - pack of 8 in wilko. They work really well!

I use jay cloths and dishcloths for different jobs. I polish things with damp microfibre cloths.

I'd ditch the antibacterial spray as well as the paper.

humblebumblebees · 01/06/2019 11:22

Agree traditional dishcloths but only the 100% cotton ones. You can wash them at high temperature and they can last for years.

orangeshoebox · 01/06/2019 11:23

no need for antibac spray unless you prepare food as a business.
warm soapy water + jay cloths or sponge cloths here.
the cloths just go in the wash.

Justme1981 · 01/06/2019 11:24

Thank you 👍i'll have a look for some traditional cotton ones.
Ive always used antibac spray - i've a cat & a toddler - perhaps being over cautious!

I got a few packs of the white/flower microfibre cloths from Poundland which i think are perfect.

I use old clothes that are stained and can no longer be word by anyone. Just cut them up.

I have an eco cloth and some bamboo reusable kitchen towel in the kitchen. Works for me.

AwdBovril · 01/06/2019 11:35

I made some. I used 100% cotton dishcloth yarn rather like this one although I was able to buy mine as single balls in a local shop. I just knitted squares very plain, they are incredibly sturdy & good to use, and have gone through several washes so far. They are thicker than regular dishcloths, but a lot more absorbent, great for mopping up spills. I use them for washing up as well.

I got these reusable scourers from Lakeland that are lasting pretty well- go through the washing machine (they still have a sponge core but have held up for over 4 months so far). The rest of the time I use flannels and tea towels that go through a hot wash.

@awdbovril oooh you've inspired me to look up dishcloth patterns on Ravelry! Haven't done that for years 😂

Jangneus Swedish dishcloths are brilliant, last for months & months & can go in the compost when they die.

I’ve gone off microfibre because of the pollution, & the Swedish ones dry really fast, unlike cotton.

I also use Spontex cellulose sponge scourers which are ok but the scouring part doesn’t last long.

Years ago I got some heavy-duty ones from Aldi which have fabric ends & a sponge core; still scour really well (good for eg oven shelves & grill pan) but the sponge has died, & ALDI no longer have them

BUT I just went to Lakeland, following Cathpot’s suggestion, and found these which look just the same! So thanks, Cathpot Grin

I knit mine up as well. 1 lg ball does about a dozen.
I knit a new dozen every two years or so.

Soontobe60 · 01/06/2019 13:33

I use microfibres cloths. Should I not? If so, why?

Not just the cloths, obv - clothes, esp things like fleeces, shed loads when they are washed. But as microfibre cloths are often used wet they must be shedding all the time.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/06/2019 14:02

I have reusable kitchen towels like these from Etsy. They’re on a roll and popper together. And never antibacterial spray, it kills all the good (97% of the microbes are good) as well as the bad and it’s doing us harm we don’t even yet know the extent of - at the least excessive use (along with all antibiotics) is leading to an increase in allergies and likely noncommunicable diseases like asthma

Mabellavender · 01/06/2019 14:08

Just buy any decent quality cloths, micro fibre, cotton, it’s up to you.

I chuck mine in with a load of washing at the end of every day.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/06/2019 14:12

@Mabellavender microfibres are leaching microplastics into our water systems and oceans and damaging wildlife. Don’t buy them

Justme1981 · 01/06/2019 14:31
