Range cookers - what a price range!

What, in essence, is the difference between the £700 and the £3,000 ones? Does anyone know? Is a £700 one a false economy? Do the Smeg ones come with diamond earrings to justify that price tag?

we have thid brittania one but it's a bugger to keep clean, otherwise great.

NKF · 24/07/2007 22:03

Well, day one of the work and the builder has found a problem with the boiler. Feel physically sick when I think about the price quoted to solve the problem. Only the fact that I've drunk two mojitos before returning home makes it bearable.

NKF, I'm very jealous of your mojitos - exactly why I chose to have a huge extension done whilst pregnant and unable to drink, I have no idea

NKF · 25/07/2007 10:18

Some extreme form of nesting I imagine.
I'm off to some retail park to look at cookers today. With two children in the car. But not pregnant. Don't think so anyway!

Any views on splashbacks by the way? I presume the stainless steel ones are easier to clean than tiles.

i got this one from the atlantic electric shop (who i get my electricity and gas from) for £401 a few months ago. It is lovely. I had a belling one before, which wasabout £700 and that was lovely, but the seal went on the door and they did not make them anymore, it was only 3 months old and comet binned it and gave me a refund. what a waste

Tinkjon · 25/07/2007 19:52

Stainless steel would be easier to clean, but I think it's a HUGE pain to actually keep clean as it shows all the fingermarks.

I have a Rangemaster toledo 90 and IT IS BRILLIANT. Really well made, solid still clean after 4 years and the best thing since sliced bread!! 2 of my friends have bought the same after seeing mine,

IMHO it depends what you want/need. We only had 90cm and I wanted 2 ovens AND a separate grill, I did not want a combined oven/grill. I just don't like them. We also wanted big ovens

this is mine

It is seriously fab. I also have black granite which suits me and I love it. I do have to wipe and dry to keep it clean though

Aufish · 25/07/2007 20:47

We have a belling combi range oven and it's one of the big talking points of my kitchen. We got an absolute bargin with it as we bought it from a place that does them cheap because there is something wrong with it. My oven has apparently got a mark on the side of it which no matter how much I look for it I can't find it. We got it for £500 and the hood that goes with it for £300, if we had bought it in Currys we would have paid a £1000 for the oven and £700 for the hood. With a family of six it is a dream come true.

Aufish · 25/07/2007 20:50

Just looked up which model out Belling is and its a Countrychef.

NKF · 26/07/2007 11:44

We're gong for the Toledo 90 in stainless steel. It's a nice piece of kit and make sense on a day to day family cooking basis and for entertaining more people. I think so anyway. Was tempted by the black but it looked a bit more Aga-like and country kitchem. One decision made. Only abut 300 to go.

glad you managed to make a choice (one at least - it is nice to be able to cross something off the list and forget about it for a while).

It's sorted but what an awful cost! The end result, I'm assured will be showers and taps that shoot out water rather than the depressing trickle we get at the moment.

Now onto kitchens cabinets.

NKF you won't regret it. I hav ethat one AND I LOVE IT>

No Other 90cm models have 2 proper ovens and a separate grill. We use all 3 at Christmas and both ovens a LOT

NKF · 27/07/2007 19:59

Crunchie - thanks for that. It looked like it would be useful and felt properly solid. I'm wavering back to black now.

Yes rangemaster and leisure are the same, they were both made in Leamington at one stage and if you look at the inside of the oven they are identical. Self cleaning with shelf rack on the door.

Leisure wasn't doing to well and one of the design team had the idea for the rangemaster - it really took off and now they only make the rangemaster in leamington.

There spec was always very high and inspection was second to none.

I have had a leisure cooker for 17 years, really has done well.

crunchie · 27/07/2007 20:08

The stainless steel one is good too since it is proeperly modern, but looks good with clasic or modern units, It also stays clean (wipes clean) really easily

snugglynuggly · 20/08/2007 21:55

i have a rangemaster toledo 90 its the business been using it about 6 months and loooked at loads before but they did not seem to be as good quality. i use the small oven the most . overall i cant fault it
