No idea, I have the same problem. Considering dying mine a darker colour, do you think that's possible?

Noloudnoises · 27/05/2019 09:07

The stitching wouldn't dye as it probably has a bit of polyester in it.

Weak bleach solution in the bath? Depends HOW grey they've gone!

LynetteScavo · 27/05/2019 09:08

Glowhite is your friend.

wigglybeezer · 27/05/2019 09:12

I died a bunch of old towels dark grey, it worked well, the stitching wasn't that evident, they looked good until my kids started using spot cream, now they all have bleached orange spots!

Glowhite, soda crystals and ace bleach for whites - wash on 60

I’ve just had an interesting episode (such is my exciting life) with distilled white vinegar and some ‘white’ tennis gear of dd. I have/had become that person who has successfully made shirts, tops etc grey-white.
So, I bought some of that Vanish white product, left to soak for a while then popped said stuff in the washer with m’usual Fairy tablets and a good ole squirt of the vinegar. Amazing! Couldn’t stop looking and felt sure my eyes were playing tricks on me; no, the top had returned to that lovely ‘ping’ white.
I’m making the leap that applying the same method to your towels would bring a similar outcome?
Make sure it’s the white distilled stuff though!

InGoodCompany · 27/05/2019 09:52

I use Vanish, too, and sometimes a spot of bleach in the wash.

My grey towels have those orange patches mentioned by PP from spot cream. How can I get rid of those?

Queenoftheashes · 27/05/2019 09:57

@saythatagain - I want to try your method - are you putting vinegar in with the fairy tab in the drum or in one of the drawers? Thank you!

sunnyskybluesea · 27/05/2019 10:59

Thanks I will give these ideas a try!

Soak in the bath with Milton then wash on a hot wash with a bit of bleach

wigglybeezer · 27/05/2019 17:39

InGoodCompany unfortunately you cant get rid of the spot cream stains because the colour is bleached, i'm not even sure it would be worth over-dyeing as they may look uneven. One of my nice Orla Kiely towels, that i hoard for my own use, got ruined because i didn't hide it well enough : (

saythatagain · 27/05/2019 18:53

Fairy tan in the drum and a good squirt of the white vinegar. BUT, I think it’s important to do the pre soak in Vanish first. I was really astounded and quite pleased with m’self, although it was purely good fortune.
Don’t get me started in the the orange marks from spot cream; another ball game entirely 🤨

schnubbins · 28/05/2019 16:25

I have the orange marks too some on bed clothes also and on some spanking new soft thick towels that I bought .My DS who is the culprit then accuses me of giving him dirty towels.

Napisan for all whites - get mine from Amazon as I never see it in shops anymore.

Great for removing stains (soak items) or directly in the wash by adding a scoop to the detergent (in drawer if using a tab) or mixed directly in with liquid.

I used to work in a restaurant and we all used it to keep our white shirts dazzling!

DON"T use it on colours though.
