One drawer; one identified space a day - anyone want to join my small daily decluttering mission

I have realised that despite doing the odd clear outs during the year, i need to keep on top of things more often, otehrwise no sooner have i finished de-cluttering than drawers are full again, cupboards bulging.

So my plan for the rest of year is to do just ONE space a day - that could be a shelf, a box, a drawer,

Yeterday i started with pens/pencils/ that are lying everywhere. i threw them all into one big bag, and then sorted them out - dropped off a huge bag of pens to our local play centre, and now have one neat box of pens.

Today i am going to do the box that holds tupperware and reccyle every goddamm piece that doesnt have a lid, or lids that a re floating around.

anyone want to join me?

I'll join you all Smile

We had a huge clearout last week (eight bin bags went to the charity shop) but there is still so much more to do. I'm noticing that I'm more ruthless now though as I'm seeing the benefit of having less clutter.

A drawer or box every day would really help us to finally get on top of it all.

I’m doing so well with this still! Downstairs is now largely completely done aside from
One massive cupboard which I’m dreading and a few small drawers etc in the living room. The change to the feel of the house and my organisation is already massive. Upstairs will be a slower process though as I am about to start a big new work project so won’t have the time to spend on the house any more.

Howlongtillbedtime · 27/05/2019 23:19

I'm in !
I am going to start tomorrow with the space under my coffee table.

It has 3 baskets . Each basket belongs to me , dh or the shared ds . It was supposed to help but I'm fact that are all overflowing with shite.

pastaparadise · 27/05/2019 23:22

ooh can i join?? Bit late to the party, but really need to declutter as it's all getting on top of me. Doubt I'll manage an area a day as 2 pre schoolers to entertain, but i like the idea of small daily challenges...

Tmrw i might tackle the sink in the utility room which is full and unuseable...

welcome pastaparadise iusedtobeanicegirl and how longuntilbedtime

Well i had my first blip and seem to have forgotten about my small spaces over the bank holiday weekend - but I am back on track.

I have identified four spaces for this week - four seperate platic containers which contain all our medicines / sunscreens / etc - all mixed up and i am sure some out of date stuff. I am sure I can reduce these four containers into two and recycle the containers for other. Lastly i will do a big platic box filled with slime making equipment - no longer used, just needs recycling, and i can use that plastic container for something else.

Come and join me! I need the company and motivation

I'm feeling virtuous today. I've sorted out a cupboard in my bedroom that was full of crap. Took rubbish to recycling centre, old clothes to clothes bank, bagged up hand me downs for niece and nephew and tidied the things I'm keeping back into the cupboard. Also took 3 manky old pillows to the tip. Halo

Okay - today I caught up with all my identified spaces so feeling good! Still got so much to do, but will keep plugging away - I am mentally noting the spaces for next week which is working well to keep me doing it.

Welcome rosemaryremember how you getting on

Okay well I have some wine chilling in the fridge ..... So happy days!

I must join you. I do small areas often but being accountable to you would hopefully make me do more.

I have all sorts of storage boxes and baskets these days which I seem to move round different areas as I tidy, changing the contents as I go.

For me it’s been a great way to declutter and I’ve noticed I buy less crap now, although this is also because I have stopped shopping in Homebargins. Things are not cheaper there if I also spent £15 on shite Shock

Hi Iwantavuvezela I have not been doing a regular thing.

We had visitors on Friday so did a "bootcamp" tidy and clean..not what I'm aiming for at all, lol!

One of the grown up kids gave up a whole shelf of books this week, which I then sorted with the siblings into ones they will keep and I took a box of the rejects to the charity shop earlier. I'll count that in my tally for this weekend!

I have a box of documents to sort through today. Wish me luck with that..

I also have four big washbags of randomly arranged bathroom stuff after the tidy up yesterday..that means I have done stage one of clearing up which is gathering it all together!

dinosaurtin · 10/06/2019 10:02

I’n our bedroom DH and I have 3 large bookshelves all attached together to make a wall. I am trying to tidy these and make them look attractive. It is so hard. I look at all these artful layouts on Pinterest but I can’t believe people actually use those bookshelves in their daily lives. I do a couple of shelves at a time and hopefully one day I’ll get to the end!

Chartreuser · 10/06/2019 10:05

Can I join in? Current waiting to see GP to hopefully be signed off work and the state of the house is not helping the state of my mind. My mission is to put away all the clean clothes and then pair up socks whilst watching Aftersun, poor 14yo DS went to school in pink socks (with a black uniform) as that's all he could find Confused

iwantavuvezela · 12/06/2019 17:47

Back again ..... Mixed report on my progress .... Haven't managed to do it every day but I am still regularly plugging away at spaces - I have managed to pass on a very big bag of children's clothes, taken books and other things to charity shop - reorganising - and every week I do one big space that takes Tim and then re focus on a small space daily when I can.

Good luck everyone! Hoping we can continue to motivate each other

Well done iwant I love getting rid of bags of kids clothes.

I’ve organised the car, bought various car seat storage things and some Velcro pockets for all the stuff rolling around the boot.

I have also re started the The Organised Mum Method for cleaning. I started it before but then my house got clean and I kept not doing it and just being a bit pants. But this time I will continue, I’m so pleased already with how easy it is, how much better my house looks and love that I’m not thinking about cleaning because I know that each areas day will come.

I have also bought some more attractive storage solutions for my bedroom shelves. Little and often is working for me.

Jacqattacq · 27/06/2019 18:56

How’s everyone doing?

I had to stop after I last posted because I have vast amount of work for the next couple of months and no time to declutter properly. BUT although the majority of the house and descended into mess and disarray again, the kitchen (which was where I did most of the work) is relatively clean and tidy most of the time and everything has stayed in its proper place. A revelation!

dinosaurtin · 25/07/2019 09:01

I have almost finished tidying and organising the shelves in our bedroom. The last bit is going to involve some furniture moving but at the moment DH is very busy so we will probably get to it in autumn when things quieten down again.

I’m trying to get in with clearing out the loft. We chuck stuff up there as we don’t have much storage elsewhere but then it gets forgotten.

The Organised Mum Method is still working well for me in the rest of the house. I really love how much difference it makes! I’m a total convert.
