Mould in Bathroom

MrsMozartMkII · 16/05/2019 20:10

DDs' rented house.

There's mould starting on the sealent around the bath, and the grouting in the full height tiling is starting to look somewhat grey.

They've tried a standard mould cleaner but it's not done any good.

Wise MN-ers, what can they use to clean the stuff off?

Do they have an extractor fan? Dettol mould and mildew remover is good. Spray and leave it for a few hours

Astonish mould spray and those little dehumidifiers you can buy in the cheap shops!

I keep hearing that this trick works very well

Hg mould spray - ds just used it in his student house and 2 applications did the trick.

I use Cilit Bang mould spray. Most times I spray and leave it but I have a small scrubbing brush I use sometimes too.

Sorry to hijack! I have mould on the bathroom ceiling 🙈🙈 what would you use to clear that up? Am worried spray stuff will just drip off 🙄

Snowdropheaven · 16/05/2019 20:57

I used to bleach it white. Lay kitchen roll on top of the mouldy area, and squeeze bleach on it. Go to work, come home and it should have bleached it white: I tried Cillit Bang, everything. Nothing worked.

Thank you kindly folks Smile

Yes to an extractor thingy and they have a cheapo dehumidifier thing in there as well.

Will tell them what you all suggest Smile

The bleach and toilet roll dipped in and lined along the mould and left for 24 hours or longer.

Hen, I made a squidge type thing. Cut a hole in the end of a washing up sponge, poke the end of a broom handle or similar through so you've got a sponge at the end of the pole. Squirt mould remover on the sponge and wipe the ceiling. Wear glasses and gloves. It doesnt really drip though but be careful.

Another vote for HG mould spray.

Check eBay and Amazon for decent prices.

Just spray a bit on, leave half an hour, give it a wipe over and rinse. No real effort required.

It's a very strong chemical smell so open your windows and be careful if you're spraying it in an enclosed shower cubicle so you're not breathing it in too much. Also don't leave it on plastic chrome coloured trim for long as it discolours.

But it's ever so good and so satisfying when you see the black rubbing down the walls!

I've used the HG mould spray on our painted ceiling too.
