Really bad limescale of shower door

mckenzie · 13/05/2019 22:19

I’ve tried

Viakal
Vinegar and water
Lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda
Bleach

All to no avail.

Do I need to be patient and choose one method and do it daily for 10 days or something?

Or is there a better option you can recommend?

TIA

Even e-cloth don't recommend their products for removing limescale build-up. They might stop new limescale forming, but they won't get rid of old deposits.

Seriously, you need the HG Hageson Blue Professional Limescale remover.

Bar keepers friend is great once you get things in check, but until then you need a strong acid in gel form like pp have suggested

mckenzie · 17/05/2019 19:39

So today I’ve tried the HG professional limescale remover on one part and the Harpic toilet cleaner on another. 3 times with each.
It has made a tiny difference I think so I’m going to do both another few times and then decide on a plan.

I will be the queen of limescale by the time I’ve finished. Lucky me Grin

A brillo pad. Test a small area first. I have brillo cleaned many a shower door and it does not scratch. There is always a first so please test!

mckenzie · 17/05/2019 19:53

I’ve been using pure steel wool (medium grade) and that hasn’t removed it. Do you think a Brillo pad is worth trying.

Seriously, cillit bang lime and grime. Totally works. Ive cleaned away horrendous limescale in about 30mins with stuff.

Smell makes me gag, but its worth it! Im all for eco- everything else but that is the only thing i can get to work in my hard water area!

SpamChaudFroid · 17/05/2019 21:35

Have you tried wrapping the cleaning product covered door with cling film though OP? Then leaving it overnight to marinate?

didireallysaythat · 20/05/2019 23:21

Can anybody be recommend a shower spray to use once you get the limescale off?

Surfingtheweb · 20/05/2019 23:34

Cillit bang, as many times as needed to get if off, then spray with mr muscle shower spray after every shower.

didireallysaythat · 21/05/2019 06:27

@surfingtheweb thank you. Apologies for the dumb question but do you have to drench the shower in the shower spray? I found I was getting through bottles of shower spray and it wasn't really helping (I still need to spend an hour a month with a scourer, vinegar and washing up liquid). Alas the family don't understand how to use the squeegee...

100% agree with PP who mentioned Limelite. Comes in a bright green bottle. Sprayed our door with it, left it for a few mins and wiped it off with a normal cloth- totally clear! I was amazed! Build up was really bad before too.
