My tenannt has just called, she says that the water level in the boiler keeps dropping and she thinks it has a leak! She said if she turns it up (not sure what she means by it) then they get hot water, but there is obviously something wrong. Anyone got any ideas, as I have no idea what she is on about.

maybe it's the pressure, not the water level. ours did this for a while and it was knackered. we now have new boiler

The system needs to have a certain amount of water in it or the boiler will over heat and cut out. I only know this because my DH took out a radiator last week and then we didn't have any hot water. An electrician who was doing work in the house noticed the pressure was low and let more water into system and it was OK.
You'll probably need to look at manual to find out where the pressure should be but it sounds like water has got out to me. But obviously I'm no expert!

sugarplum - that's what the tennant said, she thought there was water getting out somewhere. Hoping it's nothing too major

Maybe it's the pressure thing. I'm hoping so as I have no money to buy a new one, I can't imgaine a corgi plumber /heating engineer would say "Oh yes, just pay me monthly"

We bought our new boiler with and interest free cc.

saltireslytherin · 18/07/2007 17:13

An interest free cc, what's that?

it could be that there is a leak in one of the pipes or radiators

saltireslytherin · 18/07/2007 17:25

We have the British Gas homecare thing for landlords, which covers us for repirs, etc. The man on thephone has just told me we would get money towards a new boiler if need be (he actually said up to £1,000) but I'm not entirely convinced this is right.
At least the repairs are covered, and no call out

a credit card with an interest free period so if you pay it off within the free period you get a 'free' loan
