which food processor should I buy?

My ancient food processor needs replacing but I can't decide on a new one. I'm torn between a Kenwood FPM910 or a Magimix 5200XL premium. They are both top-of-the-range but the Kenwood is £100 cheaper.

I already have a Kenwood Mixer with liquidiser attachment and love it so I'm tempted towards the Kenwood but the Magimix was recommended to me by the salesperson in John Lewis. Has anyone got either and would they recommend it?

I have a KW Multi-Pro ( capacity 1.5ll which is half way up the side of the bowl but you don't overfill them)

I use the blade and the discs , IIRC there was a whisk but they aren't as good as a handheld whisk.

Only downside is the disc is smaller than the width of the bowl so some food goes into the gap, unsliced.

(My Deep Fat Fryer is a Magimix and its bloody fantastic Grin )

We have Magimix but the 4200 version. Still going strong after 11 years, would definitely recommend from our experience.

I have a Magimix 5200 and I adore it. It's just fantastic. I would wholeheartedly recommend it, I don't think you would regret it for a second. I cant comment on the Kenwood, apart from acknowledging that it's a great brand

I have a 30+ year old Magimix. Fucker won't die so I can have a nice new one.

Thanks for the advice. Interesting that you all have the Magimix. Maybe I should opt for that. I think they are probably both pretty good.

I have an ancient Kenwood processor. It's an old workhorse, and won't die.
I had a fancy well over a decade ago, pre-children when I had waaaay more disposable income, to get a newer shinier one, but still it marches on...

My Magimix is nearly 15 years old and still going.

theorchidwhisperer · 10/05/2019 23:09

Always magimix.

I'm a keen cook and have recently replaced my magimix which lasted nearly 25 years (hard use).

Because magimix is a professional product you can get all replacement parts which is really useful when it has a long life.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/05/2019 10:53

I did have to replace the plastic bowl on my Magimix, quite early on, it got brittle and cracked. But the motor is fine. Buy the biggest you can afford so you get the most use out of it.

Mine is a white one (only option in those days) and it looks very tired these days. I'd have a chrome one now.

Hi
I intend to buy big - although my current one is a bog-standard Phillips which I bought before I met DH and we've been married 25 years so it's served me well! But I rarely use it these days because it can't do what I want it to.

If I buy a top-of-the-range one I expect it to outlive me. My lovely Kenwood Mixer is used regularly, and I hope to use the food processor just as often. I still can't decide although most responses here are for the Magimix.

My Magimix is 21 years old. I clicked on this thread because the lid broke and i have to rig the machine with a chopstick to operate it (but it works just fine then) and I do want to replace it. I intend getting another Magimix though after reading up on them so am glad to see the pro Magimix replies here.

I gave my really ancient Magimix to my daughter, it is still going strong and is well over 30 years old. Spares are still available. The blade can be hard to find, but I found a few spares on ebay. I agree the bowls are pricey but at least they are readily available.

I bought a Cuisinart metal special edition and can't get spares in the UK, so it is unusable.

I next bought a KitchenAid and I absolutely hate it! It is so tall it barely slides under the upper cupboard. It is very bad at actually processing, possibly because of the curved bowl - it misses bits.

Magimix all the way!

Also, I have the Magimix stainless steamer and use it almost daily!

bouncydog · 18/05/2019 06:56

Magimix all the way. Ours is over 20 years old and works just fine. Don’t put the bowls and lids in the dishwasher as that what makes them brittle apparently. Got DD a 5200 xl and she loves it. Also have the Magimix stainless steel steamer - worth every penny.
