Please bring me your toasters!....

My toaster has just given up the ghost (started tripping the fuse last night) after less than 2 years. It was also rubbish at toasting bread (uneven and inconsistent).

Please give me your recommendation for your good toasters that are actually going to last more than a couple of years!

My current toaster or a Morphy Richards. I also understand that Russel Hobbs have similar longevity issues.

Happy to pay more for something that will last.

Thank you!

2 or 4 slots?

You can’t beat a Dualit

2 slot

I've got the Dualit Architect and it's good, though tall bread needs turning. The toasted sandwich racks for it are great.

campion · 29/04/2019 15:11

I second the Dualit. I gave up on toasters until someone bought us a Dualit, as above.

Brilliant. Had it for years - can't remember how many! You can get replacement elements too. I wouldn't ever have any other make.

Expressedways · 29/04/2019 15:11

Don’t have one, just use the grill in the oven. Did used to have a dualit and it was good but then we moved half way around the world, the toaster didn’t make the cut for shipping and we never replaced it. Now I wonder why I ever bothered with one to be honest... But if you do want one our old Dualit is now over 10 years old is still going strong with the friend we gave it to. DM even has one from the 1990s! They do last.

MiniMum97 · 29/04/2019 15:12

Sorry 4 slots please! I should have said.

I looked at the Dualit architect above (which I really like the look of) and they had a free bad reviews ie giving up the ghost after 3/4 years and Dualit can't repair them). Perhaps I need to stick to the original Dualit although I prefer the style of the style of the architect. Ummm decisions decisions.

I love my Heston blumenthal one. Smart toaster

HardAsSnails · 29/04/2019 16:02

I gave up reading toaster reviews as I had 3 in a row that were Which best buys and they were all rubbish.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 29/04/2019 16:04

We have a 4 slot but is actually 2 long slots, the only toaster to be able to toast a full Warburton slice.
Ours is a cheapy from Lidl, been great.

Nanasueathome · 29/04/2019 16:05

I’ve got a kitchenaid one
In pistachio.....I wanted it for the colour

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2019 16:06

I was in a similar position 6 months ago OP, and we bought a Dualit Classic.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/04/2019 16:32

Dualit Classic, had ours about 15 years and never had a problem with it.

MiniMum97 · 29/04/2019 16:34

Looks like Dualit classic is the one to go for...

Any views on their kettles?

OP posts:
grannycab · 29/04/2019 16:44

dualit for kettle too, best kettle I have ever had (and I didn't think it really mattered that much until I used it.

Fabellini · 29/04/2019 16:50

I bought a Smeg one a couple of months ago - because I wanted it to match the kettle I’d decided I needed because it was pink - and it’s great.
Pricey though! thing of beauty

Fabellini · 29/04/2019 16:54

The kettle is also fab - it has a keep warm function, and you can select lower than boiling temp....if, for example, you want a fancy herbal tea that shouldn’t have boiling water in it. Plus, it plays a little tune when you switch it on. Day made Grin kettle

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2019 17:02

I dint think the kettles are so good, not sure you can replace the elements so easily. I bought one anyway!! So far, so good.,0

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2019 17:05

I just got the ordinary jug kettle. It just boils water, but it’s pretty quick. Got a BNIB second have one from eBay.

CitadelsofScience · 29/04/2019 17:07

I have a Dualit Classic 4 slot one in chrome and black. Very pricey but I was sick of cheaper toasters tripping and being thrown away, so I bought this because it's repairable so more environmentally friendly.

myrtleWilson · 29/04/2019 17:16

yet another vote for the Dualit Classic 4 slot - we've had ours for donkey's....

We had some vouchers for John Lewis that had amassed over birthdays/Christmas and spent a long time in their kettle section, were very disappointed with almost all of them. A similar feeling crept over us in the lighting section. Thankfully Le Cresuet were having a sale - yay!

downcasteyes · 29/04/2019 17:21

I just use the grill. I read on Delia that the toast is way nicer that way, and I think she is right. It does take a bit longer, but then you can do more in one go.

Kettles- I HATE those kettles where the handle goes up over the top. They are a pain to empty and often burn your hand! Fast-boil is well worth the extra cash. The Stelton 'Emma' is gorgeous, but reviews are a bit meh and DH refuses to have it because it doesn't produce water at different temperatures (apparently this is vital, even though he never uses the feature). So we have this Bosch one instead www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-TWK86103GB-Styline-Sensor-Kettle/dp/B008UJJ2N4/ref=sr_1_4?s=gateway&crid=3TLS0CEB6I8GB&keywords=bosch+temperature+control+kettle&sprefix=bosch+temperature+%2Caps%2C139&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1556554863&sr=8-4

It boils REALLY fast, which is ace.

mommybear1 · 29/04/2019 17:28

Please don't go for the Dualit we did on my brother's recommendation after our cheapy Argos one died - worst thing ever doesn't toast consistently, dreadful for crumbs - we have asked my brother if he wants it. My Dad brought a Russell Hobbs one - great toaster and cheap too!
