Smelly armpits on 2nd hand t-shirts! How can I get rid of the smell?

Hi there

So I bought some maternity t-shirts from ebay for the warmer months but even though I have washed them as soon as they arrived, they still have a sweaty aroma around the armpits which isn't mine! It's a bit gross.

Any ideas for how to get rid of the smell so that I don't smell like it's me sweating whenever I wear them?

Thank you x

Vanish?
I'd ask fir refund Ergh gross

tickingthebox · 23/04/2019 13:53

hotter wash - like 60 degrees

blackcat86 · 23/04/2019 13:57

Boil wash in some vanish. Chuck in some nice smelling detergent or similar

MySecondBestBroomstick · 23/04/2019 18:17

Scrub some bio detergent powder into them under the arms, then soak with detergent still on for 24 hours, give them a good hot wash them a second wash with no powder for a really good rinse.

Or return for a refund - that would be more than justified though the seller won't like it.

It might be a simple as the seller uses nonbio, and the smell's built up, but it also could be an entrenched issue.

Hollowvictory · 23/04/2019 18:18

I'd bin them. No way would I wear someone's sweaty stinky tops. Ask for a refund.

Try white vinegar on the armpits, leave to soak for a bit then put in the machine.

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2019 18:46

Getting them out in the sun will probably help too.

MikeUniformMike · 23/04/2019 20:42

Spray white vinegar on armpits and soak then wash with bio.
Or, soak with nice smelling disinfectant (not dettol/pine) then wash with bio.

Redken24 · 23/04/2019 20:43

Vinegar and higher wash.
Also depending on colour chuck a few sterilising tabs in

MotherOfGodFella · 23/04/2019 20:44

Good squirt of white vinegar on the pits. Leave for a bit. As not a wash as you think they’ll stand. Maybe some of that antibacterial laundry stuff in the fabric softener drawer.

JaneEyreAgain · 23/04/2019 20:48

Vinegar and bicarb soak.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/04/2019 20:49

I'd ask for a refund too!

PantTwizzler · 24/04/2019 23:42

Prewash using biotex.

MojoMoon · 25/04/2019 11:34

Halo sports wash for sweaty gym clothes.

Babynamess · 25/04/2019 11:38

Yuk, I'd ask for a refund.

DPotter · 25/04/2019 11:44

another suggesting a hot was with white vinegar in the rinse section. If it's really ingrained - you may need 2 washes

I’d soak in vinegar then wash with biological powder with prewash and include vanish in the wash. There’s also a great washing liquid called halo sports wash which is non bio but great on getting ingrained sweat smells out of my gym clothes.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 11:49

Hot wash after scrubbing with a nail brush and bio liquid, also some Dettol wash stuff in the cycle.

DuffBeer · 25/04/2019 11:49

Urgh that is grim. I'd just bin them, assuming you didn't pay very much?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 11:58

I wouldn't bin something that can be easily fixed by washing correctly.

user1486131602 · 25/04/2019 11:59

Spray MOUTHWASH on it then wash, I know it's weird but it works!

HardAsSnails · 25/04/2019 19:17

Another vote for Halo sports wash, amazing stuff.
