BOWLS: pasta bowls, cereal bowls, noodle bowls - are they necessary?!

We had a set of what I consider the 'platonic ideal' of bowls - white china, the exact right shape to eat cereal or a pile of pasta, chilli, soup or noodles etc. A decent width but still fairly deep. They were from Wilko and haven't survived the dishwasher terribly well.

Pretty sure they were these

ANYWAY, we went to look round John Lewis to replace them but everything is either a shallow, small 'cereal' bowl or a bigger 'noodle bowl' or 'pasta bowl' or a deep 'soup bowl'. It's hard to tell from the online photos exactly how big/deep they are. I understand why you might want different bowls for different food but is it really necessary? Do you have these and use them 'correctly'? I don't want to buy and find storage for 6 of two or three types of bowl if I'm not going to use them!

And if you've seen any with the EXACT dimensions (Grin) as the Wilko ones please let me know! I don't think they sell them now except as part of a whole dinner set!

We have these from Ikea. They stack beautifully. Decent price and they get used for everything from cereal, to soup, to dessert. Thoroughly recommend them. The only downside is having to battle through the store to get them, but thankfully our nearest store has them quite near the entrance and a series of shortcuts to get to the checkout.

thanks for the recommendations! We have the V&B 'wave' mugs but nothing else of that range. Hadn't thought of Dunelm, so thanks. Will look in Ikea too - although had some a while ago that also got chipped in the dishwasher.

We do actually need a whole new dinner set really as our plates are massive and about 15 years old! Good quality at the time but losing their glaze. No chips though.

@ticketsonsalenow - when you find some what I call 'normal' cereal bowls please let me know. You just can't get them anymore. My last few were from a charity shop - but most dinner sets even in charity shops only ever have one or two bowls left.

OP - I have also bought an Ikea set recently to keep as a spare - but the bowls are on general use and seem better quality than I expected for the price.

We have cereal/soup bowls and separate pasta bowls. I wouldn’t use them the other way around. I do love my ancient (single) yellow shallow bowl though and I use it for my cheesy pasta whenever I am home alone. I’d be gutted if anything happened to it!
