Washing machine drawer

It's 8 years old and previous tenants have not looked after it.

How do I clean all that build up of mouldy crust that's built up inside the drawer?

you remove the drawer and get it in a bowl of hot soapy water. then you get your hand inside the gap with a clean cloth soaked in hot water and scrub!

Take the draw out. Some just pull all the way out. Some have a little catch. Then wash in the sink.

Also, if you keep the draw and door open when not in use you should minimise the mould build up.

Remove, soak in spray bleach or white vinegar and scrub. You will also need to clean the slot the drawer goes into and unblock any clogged water inlets with a unbent paperclip. Also run a hot wash empty with vinegar in the drawer.

Thanks, I always leave the food and the drawer open but previous tenants haven't so it's gone yuck.

I have removed the drawer but it's the inside of the machine where the drawer goes that's the problem. I've scrubbed but nothing it's not budging.

Spray it with bleach mixture or a bathroom cleaner designed to break down soap scum. Leave for an hour. Spray again and get in the nooks with a toothbrush. It's not fun and takes bloody ages to get it sorted when it's really bad.

Whiskyagogo · 15/04/2019 10:16

Thanks. Yes I may have to go and get some kind of industrial bathroom cleaner. Something, like you say, that breaks down soap scum as well as limescale.

Take it out, soak it in had soapy water and get an old toothbrush to it.

I live in a very hard water area, and today I cleaned my drawer with masonry cleaner from Wickes (it's hydrochloric acid, nasty stuff but it cleared the limescale/crusted up washing powder).

It looks like new now!

@yetanotheruser that sounds a bit scary! 😂 buy hmmm maybe citric acid could work.....
