Food processor, stand mixer or both?

I like to bake. For years my only mixing gadget was a food processor and when it finally died I was delighted to replace it with a Kenwood Prospero mixer/ food processor / blender in one. However, the mixing bowl was awful, I spent the whole time pushing mixture back down into the bowl or scraping it off the sides. I really missed my old food processor, which had been completely unglamorous but had actually made really decent cakes with no fuss.

Now the Prospero has blown itself up after a mere 2 years (hooray!) and I need to figure out what to replace it with.

My head says I should probably get a good quality, large capacity food processor, eg a magimix. My heart says get a mid range stand mixer and a cheaper food processor. Any advice? Are decent stand mixers better than food processors for baking or are they style over substance? Are they any good for pastry?

I only use my kenwood mixer for baking now and I love it. I still make pastry in a food processor though. So I say get both!

I think they're just different. I bought a MagiMix first, thinking it would do everything, then bought a KitchenAid eventually. I love my KitchenAid, I think it's far superior for baking etc.

I'd say both as well

WRT the scraping the mixing bowl, I had a silicone bladed K Beater with my old mixer (it didn't fit my new one sadly) so I have to use the standard metal one and scrape the sides.

I bought a large bowled Kenwood Food Pro , (blade and cutting discs) . Good for pastry , it only needs processsed briefly to mix and minimal hands on touching .

I bought a hand held stick blender for soups and Yorkshire Pudding mix.

Oh yes, I have a silicon bladed mixing attachment too, it's fab for baking.
