New kitten a few months ago

Litter tray

Few accidents - cleared up

Taught to go outside

Few more accidents but now knows where to go

When I walk in to my house there is this whiff of cat wee and I cannot locate the source - it kind of comes and goes. Is driving me nuts - can't ask anyone round.

Also worst thing is I am worried I am accustommed to it as cannot smell it now - only the odd whiff.

What can I do - any suggstions - anything!

You can get an ultraviolet torch for about £30 on the net that will show where the wee is. DON'T GET PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANERS IN. The stuff they use often reactivates wee and makes it worse. Get a proper wee-removing spray. And loads of joss sticks. Really stinky ones.

Don't use anything with ammonia in to clean up any mess. It just encourages the cats to go there again.

NotQuiteCockney · 12/07/2007 18:58

You need to start peering in corners to find it.

Is your cat an unneutered male? They just 'spritz' all over the damn place, some of them, to mark their territory.

I agree with nqc might be spraying or if your kittten is girl might be local tom spraying on her or poss getting in your house cat flap maybe??

zookeeper · 12/07/2007 19:13

have you checked your knickers?

BBBBasilisk · 12/07/2007 19:18

aw - he is a tom - but would he be spraying at only a couple of months old?

If so does whipping their nuts off do the trick?

Will have a good hunt and smell round and then invest in one of those lights.

Thanks everyone - apart from zookeeper - how very dare you!

very funny tho he he

Getting a cat neutered reduces spraying, makes them better pets, and is a neighbourly sort of thing to do, besides. This page says they start spraying at sexual maturity, and if you don't neuter them young enough, they will keep spraying. Best to get them neutered at 6 months, according to this.

"there is this whiff of cat wee and I cannot locate the source"

My bet is that it's coming from the cat.
