I need to clean Roman blinds...how?!

Hi. Fabric Roman blinds have been up for a long time. Redecorating the room and desperately need to clean the blinds.

Was thinking of a steam cleaner but am concerned that it might leave watermarks on the cream lining at the back.

Other than that, would taking them down and washing them in the bath work?

Any advice much appreciated. Flowers

I’d take them out and wash them in the bath or even in the washing machine if it’s big enough. If you, unlike me, are sensible, take them to the dry cleaners.

Have you tried hoovering with the upholstery attachment?

Chimchar · 30/03/2019 10:34

Thanks both.
I'm not at all sensible!
They're beyond hoovering I think. Had a quick go the other day without much improvement. Black mortar dust has been floating around and they look grubby.
Really appreciate your replies.

I’ve always taken mine down by untying the strings, removed the rods and stuck them in machine - cold wash, light spin, non-bio. Put them back up slightly damp after an iron. BUT, mine are cheapish cotton mix from Blinds2go, so I wouldn’t be sombrave if they were bespoke/expensive fabric etc. Also, mine are plain so no issues wi

..th colour run.

I too took the rods point and put them in the machine, short, cold wash , non bio as previous poster. They were okay , but the fabric shrunk slightly - fabric was not machine washable let..... It was a pain getting the rods back in ! . I'd wash them, espc if the atlernative is to replace them. Or put them on the line dry and give them a good beating

Some stick on the top bar with Velcro. Remove rods etc . Soak in bath in just slightly warm water, tepid ( not stone cold ). Agitate gently. Rinse. Roll in towel ( like a Swiss roll ) no twisting just compression to help dry quicker. If you are going to take out strings take a phone photo to help re assemble correctly. If you have more than one to do measure detergent so they have same exact treatment - and still match at end.

Thanks everyone.
I cut the strings off and washed them in the bath...they were FILTHY!

Rehung them and they've shrunk! Confused
Have stretched them a bit and it seems to be working. Will stretch them again later and see if I can get them a teeny bit longer.

Thanks again for the advice. Thanks
