Crockery

If I threw out all our chipped bowls & plates, the 4 of us wouldn't be able to eat at the same time!

Is it best to replace them with bog standard IKEA ones which I can replace when they get chipped, or should I spend more to get something better quality and less breakable? My loved ones are quite 'heavy-handed'. Hmm Grin

Hopeful bump.

When we moved house 13 years ago we bought a pack of plates, bowls and sideplates from IKEA. We have lost a couple to chips but the rest are still going strong. My idea had been to use them for a while and replace with something poster but I've yet to bother replacing them.

I like a change every once in a while so I just buy crockery as and when I like it. Odd and mismatching all the way! Our denby has lasted incredibly well.

I’ve also got an Ikea set which has lasted us years, so would definitely recommend. I’ve also got a nice set of White Company plates and bowls that are a simple plain white design (so shouldn’t date) that I use for ‘best’.

O yes we have a Denby set too from our wedding. That only comes out about 4 times a year though.

topcat2014 · 24/03/2019 20:24

We got given Denby stuff for our wedding - and chucked out all our studenty shite.

Still going strong 15 years later - and still available new.

(Got the royal blue / white stuff)

Chicknit all and get an Ikea set. We have the boring beige comes-in-a-box-brick-of-4-settings stuff and have added a few side plates/bowls as things get broken. We're 10+ years in and still going strong for £20 set up fee and maybe £8 in top ups!

Haggisfish · 24/03/2019 21:40

We use the denby every day and still going strong. Ikea stuff also very good.

SamSpade · 25/03/2019 10:36

Thanks! Denby is quite spendy, isn't it!

I have plain white from Ikea. Cheap. Not all of it matches but it does the job.

Haggisfish · 25/03/2019 18:57

It is-is definitely go ikea. There’s a denby seconds factory which is good.

SamSpade · 25/03/2019 21:04

Oh now there's a coincidence...there's an outlet near where I'm going next week.... Grin

Our Denby stoneware dinner set has lasted chip and break free for ten years now. Add to it often from the 'seconds,' shop. Wholly recommend it.

Vitalogy · 29/03/2019 14:02

That was my plan to get an Ikea range but when I went back for replacements they'd stopped making it Confused
