I always wash all my hoodies on a normal wash cycle.

I don’t think I’ve ever checked the washing label on my hoodies. Mine all go in on a 40 cotton wash. I’m sure they will be fine.

Some shops put a delicate wash on all their clothes regardless, M&S tend to do this. Sometimes a cotton wash can make stuff a bit more creased than a delicate wash because of more and faster spinning but apart from that it should be fine.

Absolutely this, manufacturers are increasingly putting over cautious laundry care instructions on fabric for 2 reasons

  • to mitigate blame/responsibility if the garment is ruined during laundry care (I've seen 100% cotton shirts say 30 wash - FYI it can be boil washed)
  • to reduce environmental impact by lowering the temperature of washes consumers do, which in itself isn't a bad thing but it can lead to other problems.

Experience will tell you what can be washed on what, provided your hoodie is a standard hoody and not adorned in sequins or the like a normal cycle as opposed to a delicate cycle would be fine.

But if you are worried and it's a treasured hoodie then wash as instructed (you'll have recourse then if something does go wrong).
