Can you recommend a non toxic fry pan?

Hello,
And preferably one that's non stick but based on stainless steel, not aluminium...

I'm not really sure where to look. The 'green pan " company seem to put their non stick coating onto an aluminium pan...
I've always used a Jamie Oliver pan but not sure if coating is PFOA (?) free...

Any suggestions?
Thank you

Greenpan do a version suitable for induction hobs so presumably steel. Unfortunately the coating is rubbish. I’ve gone back to toxic pancakes.

I've got stainless steel pfoa free non stick coated frying pans from pro cook, had them a couple of years and still as good as new.

Or you could get cast iron - if properly seasoned it becomes more and more non stick over time.

Green pans are rubbish. I held such high hopes for them but they are poor quality.

stirling · 08/03/2019 15:01

Yep, thought so. Don't want to waste any more money on another rubbishy pan :(

I personally wouldn't use any non-stock coating at all. Even if PFOA free its only a matter of time before they find that whatever they have replaced the offending chemicals with are also toxic!

I have a stainless steel frying pan and generally have no problems with sticking. It's prestige. Not sure if they still sell them as I got mine in a charity shop for a pound! 😊

We have one of these and it’s excellent. Very fussy MIL agrees.

I've just bought a green pan, but not used it yet. Wish I'd seen this thread first.

I'd recommend a cast iron skillet - if you 'season' them properly (they come with instructions) then they form a wonderful non-stick layer. You can put them in the oven too. I've had mine for thirty years. No nasties to come off them!
They do however weigh a tonne so tossing pancakes requires Olympian strength.

Second the cast iron. I have a frying pan - cheap, excellent quality, easy to clean, lasts forever,

stirling · 13/03/2019 08:40

Can you make pancakes in the cast iron pan?

Veterinari · 14/03/2019 21:38

Yes - it’s like a normal frying pan. Just heavier

Nixee2231 · 14/03/2019 21:43

Why are you folks unhappy with your greenpans? I have 3 of the cambdrige (induction) ones for a year now. I put them in the dishwasher and am not gentle with them but so far they look as good as new. What kind of horrors do I have to look forward to? (Before I go out and buy 5 more)

ViserionTheDragon · 14/03/2019 22:58

Either cast iron as mentioned by PP or stainless steel. I recently bought some ProCook stainless steel pans for my new induction hob and I'm very happy with them.

Have a look at Scanpan:

www.scanpan.com

DH has some and swears by them. In the US you can buy them on amazon. He has one pan I bought him 20 years ago and the non-stick coating still works perfectly.

I use a french (carbonated steel??) pan from manufactum. It isnt coated, can be scrubbed an scoured if needed, is sterl and not aluminum, but is less sticky than any non-stick ever, even on a medium heat. We make omelette, pancakes, fried eggs, steak, anything and it is magic. Will never by a non stick again. Dont know why these aren’t better known?

Harebellsies · 17/03/2019 16:36

Its this one and i swear by it. www.manufactum.com/iron-fry-pan-p1517273/?c=193701&a=49361
It isnt terribly expensive either. Its magic non-stick iron but lighter and nicer than cast iron. I even put it in the dishwasher one lazy day and it got all scratched but seems to have recovered.

I wash it by hand then put a teeny bit of oil on with kitchen roll, swish it about. If there are any orange dots from the iron these come off easily with oil and kitchen roll.
The pan basically didnt even need to be seasoned - it was just five minutes on a medium heat prior to the first use.
I can throw away my le creuset frying pans now they are basically reduced to clutter but they were so pricey i cant bear to.

This de Bruyer pan is truly magic!!!! Never had such perfect pancakes or eggs ever!

I used my Greenspan today. I bought it because I wanted a small non stick pan. I cooked eggs in it and it was great.
