Damp smell, how to get rid

Hi,

My bath in en suit overflowed a bit onto the carpet and there is now a damp smell in my bedroom. I opened all the windows and it has subsided a lot but is there any treatment I could do to the carpets etc to get of any odour?

Have you mopped up the spill and let it dry out completely?

The underlay May be smelling - perhaps life and dry out, use bicarbonate of soda on dry carpet and hoover it up as the smell will slick to it

I'd be inclined to replace the carpet with vinyl or tiles if it's the bathroom itself, bedroom is a pain as it's bigger and more expensive of course

*lift and dry out ...

Eesha · 05/03/2019 13:27

I don't think I can lift it at all. It's almost dry now. So it's bicarb then Hoover?

Let it dry then put bicarb on it. Leave overnight, then use a dustpan and brush to remove most of the bicarb, then hoover.

If the underlay is separate, could you lift the carpet to expose the damp underlay? If so, put bicarb on that too when it is dry.
If the bicarb doesn't work, try white vinegar.

@MikeUniformMike Thank you for the advice, still feels a tiny bit damp so I'll wait till tomorrow then put the bicarb on tomorrow night Grin

Do you know anyone who has a dehumidifier you could borrow? Maybe that would help ensure the flooring is completely dry

Try a hairdryer?

Then the bicarb
Then maybe a quick carpet shampoo spray and some shake n vac or something to freshen it up?
