How often do you replace your broom (and what with)?

We've got wood/tile floors downstairs and as I sweep up every day (usually about five times!), brooms wear out quite fast. The one I've got now, the bristles are all matted so it can't really be cleaned properly either, but it's just got to the point where it's soft enough not to send all the dust pinging across the floor when I sweep. There's got to be a better way! I either need a softer brush, or else I was thinking about getting a dust mop. But then I have a load of wee bits of paper to sweep up every day from the kids doing crafts stuff, and would a dust mop lift that? Can anyone recommend me a good soft broom or dust mop?

I've had my broom for 20 years, although it's had 17 new heads and 14 new handles.

Seriously? I have tiles and just vacuum them. Would that not be easier? You can get special brush heads for wooden floors too.

Only replace it if I could find a Nimbus 2000 at a good price.

I haven’t owned a broom for at least fifteen years, except a big garden one. Indoors I just vacuum.

Have you tried the rubber head brooms, i find it amazing for dog hairs, although i do just vacuum the majority of the time .www.leifheit.co.uk/product/details/rubber-broom.html

Coco brush, i have wood and tiles down stairs and do lots of sweeping like you.

Just got this after wanting one for ages -sweeps really well without flicking the bits around, highly recommend.

I don't understand how vacuuming is easier than a quick sweep?

But this is probably because i have a henry which is not stored in a particularly handy place and until it stops working cant be spending ££ on those fancy lightweight new fangled ones i read about on here Grin

I also have hard floors and have never owned a broom. I use a dustpan and brush for very small messes but otherwise just hoover (much quicker now that I have a cordless stick vacuum but I used to pull out a big heavy corded thing shudder).
