It’s fine but use a tiny amount of detergent (lots of soap will knacker the fabric). It’s crap for the environment (wasteful of electricity and water), so use do it in emergencies only. Always check if there’s anything else that can be chucked in alongside, so it isn’t such a waste.

LazyFace · 04/03/2019 19:44

Definitely not ok for the environment. Why not hand wash instead?

Lostone87 · 04/03/2019 19:53

LazyFace I would like to wash single jeans. So would it better to hand wash jeans?

Hope i make sense

You put the washing machine on for one item?

Shock
Twickerhun · 04/03/2019 19:56

It’s probably fine for the jeans and the machine but rubbishbfor the future of the planet.
Kind regards.

Why do you want to wash the jeans on their own OP? If it's their first ever wash and you think the colour will bleed that seems reasonable, but if it's a habit that seems a bit different...

Boom76 · 05/03/2019 10:08

I do one item and put it in a 30 minute wash.

Lostone87 · 05/03/2019 12:40

DustyDoorframes because i have just one jeans that is a dark blue which is not enough for its own load and the others jeans and denim jackets i have is a light blue thats enough for that load. I know people separate colours into dark/colour/white and also fabric type. I dont have whites so thats not an issue

I just started to live on my own, I dont have a lot of clothes and started to become more independent as i have aspergers so its a big deal for me and i do hope i make sense

Your dark wash blue ones can go in with your ‘dark wash’ (black T-shirts etc), so long as it’s not hotter than 40 degrees, they’ll be fine.

Light blue wash ones can go in with your mixed coloureds wash if you don’t want to wait until you’ve got a full load of denims.

Lostone87 · 05/03/2019 13:28

Is it ok to put coloured (light blue) in with the darks such as blacks and wash it on cold so it dont bleed?

You can put them all in one wash, honestly.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 05/03/2019 13:33

We use colour catcher sheets which stop colour bleeding.
The cheap ones seem just as good as the more expensive ones.

Personally I think it's OK to wash just one pair of jeans as they would weigh the same as a large amount of lighter things. But I have a machine that does a really short cycle on cold.

EntirelyAnonymised · 05/03/2019 14:09

I find the colour catcher sheets cause colour fade. They don’t only seem to ‘catch’ loose dye, they seem to draw dye out of fabrics. I stopped using them.

In answer to can you wash together on a cold wash, in theory yes. If they aren’t new dark wash jeans, which are always ‘overdyed’ and bleed excess dye the first few washes. Once they’ve been washed two or three times and the excess dye has gone, they should be fine on a cold wash.

DustyDoorframes · 05/03/2019 16:19

I think you will be fine with a darks load, including the dark jeans, dark T-shirts, tops, pjs, undies, and anything else, washed on 30, or cool, possibly in a mixed or synthetics programme, and a lights wash, with the lighter denims, and other pale clothes, also washed on 30, or cool, also on a mixed or synthetics programme. If the lights are more light-to-middling you can pop in a colour catcher sheet, but it's probably not worth it with the darks. If you have white towels and sheets they can go in on a strict white wash, a bit hotter, on a cotton programme. Any woollens or silks (And bras, most likely) will need to go on a delicates or handwash programme, again roughly divided into darker and lighter.
But as you can see from the responses, laundry is not an exact science! Unless you are putting a bright red silk dress on a boil wash with all your whites and a black jumper... you will be fine!
