Can I be really nosey and ask you how much you spend on gas and electricity? You can mention size of house but no need if you don't want.

I have just woken up to the huge savings that can be made by doing little tweaks, both monetary and for the environment.

When we moved here, we had mains gas for the first time. Previously used to huge bills for LPG of course and just never really twigged on that we should have been making big savings now on grid.

I'll go first. Gulp, quote ashamed of this. £133 a month with Bulb on gas and electricity.

Five bed house with 2kwph panels. Ashamed I just never thought of those tho so washing machine and dishwasher just put on at night (habit as used to have ec7 but don't now).

So stupid. Reckon we are able to slash that in half very easily.

Five bed house. New build so v well insulated.

Im with Bulb too and I pay £102 a month for gas and electric.
I have a 3 bedroom house.

Can I ask Always …. are you careful and mindful of useage?

Do you think you could get it lower if you wanted to? There is always a trade off, at the moment I have time and I am spending time looking at this stuff. Working out when most efficient time the dishwasher should go on, tracking daily etc.

But this takes time, which I didn't previously have.

£125 A month with edf - 4 bed detached in Scotland. Price per month doesn't mean much, you have to look at usage too.

dementedpixie · 04/03/2019 12:22

If you don't have economy 7 it doesn't matter what time you run your dishwasher/ washing machine, etc

thefirst48 · 04/03/2019 12:24

4 bedroom house, £90 per month.

LizB62A · 04/03/2019 12:38

46£ a month for dual gas and electricity. 2 bedroom house.

caughtinanet · 04/03/2019 13:09

I don't understand why you want to know what other people pay. Genuine question - how is that helping ?

dementedpixie · 04/03/2019 13:59

It doesn't matter what other people pay. Look at your usage (take your annual figures) and use a comparison site to see if you can get it cheaper.

Shoeshelpplease · 04/03/2019 19:01

Hi, I am really happy with Bulb (on environmental grounds as well as price) so I am not looking to switch.

It does matter re what time I put appliances on because we have solar panels. We gain a fee for whatever electricity we generate, then we can also use the power as we generate it, or not. So it makes far more sense to be using the 2kw an hour we generate on a good day, at the time we generate it. We still get paid for generating it, so a double win.

Re comparing to others, I just wondered how far out we were / are. Same as people compare supermarket shopping etc.

Yes, I could have asked what people use but I dont think many people would know that off the top of their head, wheras many would be aware of their payments, that's all.

dementedpixie · 04/03/2019 19:27

I pay £125 but a lot of that is on electricity rather than gas.

caughtinanet · 04/03/2019 20:03

I still don't see how it helps you in anyway to know what anyone else pays or uses.

I know this is stating the obvious but if you are on the best tariff and don't waste energy you will spend the least amount of £££ for you. What I do is totally irrelevant in exactly the same way that what anyone else spends on their food is. I've seen these questions asked before but never really worked out why it's helpful to know

Shoeshelpplease · 04/03/2019 20:13

Well I guess we are all different, which is a good thing.

Thanks to all those that replied.
