Throwing stuff out - biting the bullet.

So in the spirit of Marie Kondo I am decluttering my flat. It’s small, I need more space and I move quite often so need less to move about.

I have a couple of boxes of sentimental stuff toys, books etc from when I was a kid and am really torn to get rid of it, but at the same time all it does is sit in a box.

I also have a habit of keeping things just in case they come in handy eg, an craft tool box, stiletto sandals I’ve owned for years but have never worn kept ‘in case I go out’. Clothes I like from years ago that no longer fit etc.

I feel like I need to bite the bullet and actually get rid of these things that I keep but never use. I love it when I’m in a hotel and don’t have all this ‘stuff’ around me.

Has anyone done this and how did you talk yourself into doing it?

PS The feeling joy thing just doesn’t work for me.

Clothes that no longer fit should go.
Do the sandals still fit comfortably? If not they should go to.

Is there a way to display some of the childhood items you have in the box, perhaps on a floating shelf or such?

Get rid of things that you could replace if you had to, like the shoes and clothes.

Yes the sandals fit but no they are not comfortable because of 5 inch heels. I wear flip flops in the summer definitely not heels. So I shall get rid of replaceable shoes and clothes. Done. Thanks.

I can see where your going with the idea of the shelf, but I dont really want a my little pony, care bare, kermit the frog and a dragon puzzle sat on a self :D

OP have you actually read the Kondo book? She has a lot of very useful stuff to say which I think would help, and won't come across as clearly in the telly.

I love it when I’m in a hotel and don’t have all this ‘stuff’ around me.

This is the key bit. Your craft toolbox is just getting in the way of this.

Do you actually want to get rid of your childhood care bear though? I think hanging onto a little of this stuff is pretty healthy. Could you maybe condense it down from two boxes to one smaller box?

Don't throw the sentimental stuff.
Throw out clothes that no longer fit unless you love them.

I haven't read the book, only watched the tv show. I've just reserved it from the library and shall give it a go, thanks.

No one I know seems to have any of their childhood stuff, which is shy I was asking, I thought maybe I was being too sentimental keeping it!

Non fitting clothes and shoes are now in a charity bag by the front door :D Thanks, this is giving me a basis to start from and hopefully the book with help too.

Maybe take some photos of the sentimental stuff to keep and get rid of the actual things
