Cleaning kids rubber bath mat?

I’ve used Milton (or asda’s Cheap sterilising tablets) soaking it in the bath but lately I’ve just got into using Zoflora and wondered whether I can use it on the bath mat and what would be the best way? The bath mat has gone a bit slimy (we use Oilatum for our youngest) as well as not sticking and looking like it needs a good clean.

If you do use it then how? How many capfuls etc?

I’m always a bit mindful of using chemicals on the kids stuff so thought I’d ask the gurus here for advice! 😘

I just stick mine in the washing machine once a month, keeps it looking like new.

We used to use the pressure washer on ours Blush Or buy cheap and replace more often.

If it’s slimy from oilatum I’d just give it a really good scrub with hot soapy water. Might soak it in Milton afterwards to make super sure, but probably wouldn’t bother if the water had been hot enough in the first place. I have a munchkin mat thing and it’s a sodding nightmare to keep clean- never seems to dry fully and always seems to gather the soap scum and random sock fluff that ends up in the bath 😬😬

Chuck it in the washing machine.

Really? A plastic bath mat? I’m not talking about the fabric bath mats you stand on out of the bath here. I didn’t think you could put it in the machine!!

NoParticular I know! They’re such a nightmare! And now I’ve seen this Zoflora craze and it’s making me wonder whether that stuff would kill the nasties but then I would be panicking after that I had rinsed it properly so that the chemicals wouldn’t remain. Milton it is then!!

The type with suckers on it that stops you slipping in the bath, mines been washed many times, no damage to the machine or the mat.

DrWhy · 01/03/2019 11:10

I’m following this for ideas as ours are starting to grow orange slime and I really don’t want to keep chucking them out, maybe Milton is the way forward.

I would not use zoflora. It is not a cleaner, only a disinfectant. It is so highly scented and toxic, I would not be happy to have that in the same bath as my child.

I usually scrub mine with bathroom cleaner and use a brush (old toothbrush or similar) to get around the suckers. If it's greasy from bath additives try washing up liquid.

Washing machine OP - amazing what you can put in there. Veteran of Lego and pegs here......

didireallysaythat · 01/03/2019 22:04

I use one of those kitchen sprays with bleach. Spray it on and leave it on their overnight in the bath - gets rid of the black and orange. Next day rinse thoroughly with the shower and you're good to go.

Hoviscats · 01/03/2019 22:06

definitely the washing machine!!

musicalmama · 01/03/2019 22:21

Detol mould and mildew remover and a good rinse after. Or "Astonish" version of the same thing from b&m.

Boyskeepswinging · 01/03/2019 22:28

Washing machine along with other stuff to help to agitate it. I throw in the rubber and fabric bathmats along with the shower curtain and all come out looking like new.

iwillgetout · 01/03/2019 22:37

I've popped mine in the washing machine too - works a treat

dreichuplands · 01/03/2019 22:51

Zoflora is just scented disinfectant I believe so it won't remove oily residue.

In fact what mrsoutnumbered said.

FuckyNel · 01/03/2019 22:54

I put mine in the dishwasher

Bellebill · 02/03/2019 21:10

Thank you ladies! What setting on the washing machine? Synthetic 30?! X

My Tesco plastic bathmat with suckers on the bottom came with washing instructions that said it could be washed at 60! Personally I've not risked it above 40 as I don't want the suckers to stop.working.

Arewehumanorbones · 02/03/2019 21:13

Lowest spin!

Boyskeepswinging · 02/03/2019 21:17

Yes, like PP I wash mine on a 40 degree "mixed load" programme which is not as vigorous as a cotton but more than a wool/synthetic. Works fine for me, never had the need to try a higher temp.
