Hi I've just moved into a new flat and the toilet is filthy - I've managed to get rid of all the dirt where the water is but I can't seem to remove the line, does anyone have any tips please as I'm running out of ideas and bleach Smile

Viakal limescale remover?

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 27/02/2019 17:16

Take some of the water out and Viakal the line.

mumwon · 27/02/2019 17:18

aldis toilet gel cleaner leave over night (or during day if not there!) & scrub - bleach doesn't clean lime scale off - check which ever gel you use states clears lime scale

glamorousgrandmother · 27/02/2019 17:19

My daughter moved into a house with a toilet worse than that and bought some fizzing tablets. It took 3 goes of leaving them overnight but eventually worked.

LKRJM · 27/02/2019 17:23

Mould and mildew blaster works for everything imo 😂 and you can get it in Poundland. Also agree with the viakal and the strong toilet tablets x

Pinkywoo · 27/02/2019 17:30

Full fat coke! Pour it all round the bowl and leave overnight.

BingLiveisRubbish · 27/02/2019 17:33

Caustic soda! Just make sure you use gloves and open the bathroom window/switch vent on first and walk away for 30 mins then flush.

Most independent household shops sell it for about £1.79 but make sure it's not the one with drain cleaner in as that's rubbish! Just caustic soda is what you need. B&Q do have it but it's £5 a bottle!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/02/2019 17:36

The cheapest nastiest cola you can. Full sugar though... Pour it in, leave it overnight and flush your lovely clean loo in the morning

littleleeleanne · 27/02/2019 19:14

Empty the water out and fill it with white vinegar and baking powder or bicarbonate soda can't remember which one lol. Just add fuck loads of concoctions in there but in the end I also got a butter knife and chipped away at mine until it went 🤢

MrsJDornan · 27/02/2019 19:16

Perfect thank you, I'll try some of these tomorrow, the whole of the bowl was brown it was disgusting 🤢 looked like it hadn't been flushed in years

Apparently citric acid is really effective.

YetAnotherUser · 27/02/2019 19:18

Black harpic is the shit for this kinda thing. I swear by it. Use every night till it looks like new.

BoysRule · 27/02/2019 19:20

If you don't mind putting a rubber glove on and getting your hand in then barkeeper's friend is literally your friend. It will get it all off in an instant.

Cuntforthebutter · 27/02/2019 19:24

We moved into a rented property with a worse toilet than that. We tried most of the above and it wasn't budging. What eventually worked was this. Be very careful using it; it's strong stuff!

SassitudeandSparkle · 27/02/2019 19:27

Agree with all the PP saying it is likely to be limescale that needs shifting - viakal has worked for me in the past (hard water area) and I do use citric acid for descaling kettles and steamers but haven't tried that method in the bathroom yet!

MrsJDornan · 27/02/2019 20:26

Just ordered some of that thank you @Cuntforthebutter Smile

Anything is worth a try I hate it when people ask to use the toilet Blush

If nothing else works then Spirit of Salts will do it. It is hydrochloric acid though, so must not be allowed to mix with any other cleaner. Good ventilation is essential too as it gives off fumes initially.

As landlords, I have had to clean a toilet that was much, much worse than that. I really thought that we would have to buy a new toilet, but Spirit of Salts brought it up like new.

M0reGinPlease · 27/02/2019 20:40

Please just make sure you're properly flushing in between using different products and chemicals, accidentally mixing cleaning products can be really dangerous.

gigi556 · 27/02/2019 20:55

I haven't tried it yet, but my mother has recommended using a pumice stone to scrub it off!

glamorousgrandmother · 27/02/2019 21:09

Harsh abrasives like pumice stone will roughen the surface of the porcelain making lime scale and dirt stick on more on the future.

mumwon · 27/02/2019 23:39

second not mixing different things as you will land up not needing to clean loo as it might go bang! & the chemicals created will be very dangerous - use separate days with lots of flushing in between!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 27/02/2019 23:41

The black harpic is amazing and will sort that out.

MrsJDornan · 28/02/2019 06:43

I promise to leave a day or so in between trying to clean and will definitely flush lots Smile thank you all for your help

Harpic tablets, we are in a really hard water area and it got the limescale off overnight.
