Bits in kettle

Has anyone had a problem like this before, and any idea how to solve it? We have a brand new kettle and after a few days we're already getting little floating bits of what I can only assume is some kind of limescale (see pic).

The same thing happened with the last kettle we bought and we threw it away thinking it was a problem with the kettle as we live in a soft water area and had our first kettle for 6 years with no such issues.

So does this mean something has changed with the water supply maybe? What can I do about it? I've even tried using filtered water from the Brita and it's still happening.

We live in a hard water area and that looks exactly what I would find at the bottom of my kettle, which incidentally looks to be the same model as yours, if the (separate) water filter needs changing.
If I haven’t changed it swiftly enough I need to get out the Oust sachet and deploy it in the kettle, but don’t forget to treat/clean the metal mesh at the top which can stop the lime scale leaving the kettle as you pour the water away!
Hope that helps Smile

Looks like my completely rubbish severn Trent scale water.
I'm cross about it because I live in Yorkshire with ambrosia water but mine is supplied, with scale, from ST.
£70 a month too Shock

With the kettle cold, Pour in some white vinegar to cover it. Leave it a while, pour it out.
Flush with water. It'll take the timescale right off, just repeat as needed. Easy!

We live in an area where the water company adds something to the wat to soften it but we still get something like that in our kettle. Descale with vinegar if you don’t want to use chemicals.

Water not wat

I have a bottle of lemon juice in my fridge for the kettle. Then I don’t have to worry about rinsing it out as well as you do with vinegar.

I just squirt it an empty kettle before I go out. When I come back, I pour some on a cloth and wipe the outside too.
