Wooden clothes airer

Aurea · 16/02/2019 20:43

I'm looking to buy a wooden concertina clothes airer. I'm looking at the Lakeland, John Lewis or Garden Trading ones. They are all about the same price. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

You need to be careful with wood airers as they can go mouldy if you don't air them properly between washes. I couldn't work out why the clothes had a funny smell after drying until I found bits of damp black mould on the rails of the airer. I ended up getting rid of ours as the rails also loosened in the frame and were not strong enough to hold the clothes. We replaced it with a plastic one from Ikea and have had no problems with it. It stays in the utility room where the heat from the radiator and the tumble dryer speed up drying time.

The wooden ones look nice but as MsMama said, they tend to go mouldy. I'd look for one with rails that are not wood, even if the frame is.

... and the mould marks clothes.

We have a wall mounted wooden airer from pulley maid and I love love love it. It does get regular airing though.

Even if they arent mouldy, wooden ones can mark clothes

Thanks guys. I think I will order the Lakeland one as the rungs are aluminium so shouldn't go mouldy. Thanks again!
