As above!
I have mice - what the fuck do I do !??

We just moved to a new house, next to large fields so I assume this is a (or more wahhhh!) field mouse and hopefully not a RAT OR SOMETHING!!

How do you get rid of mice nowadays? Do I have to throw all my food away?
Why isn't my dad here to come round and take care of this for me?

Can I just add that my house is V clean and I'm mortified. Sad

Please, tell me to get a grip and give me your rodent tips?

Ring a pest control company or environmental health at your local council they will come and do it for you.

Fill any holes in floorboards / skirting boars with wire wool. Put all food in high up cupboards. If you don't have pets get a rodent repelling noise emitter.

I have a dog who didn't even bat an eyelid at the new furry friend who scooted past her bed this morning 🙄

Put some Nutella in the bottom of some humane traps.

Catch the mice.

Pop them in an old hamster cage with loads of sawdust and hamster bedding and some food and water until the weekend.

Pop the cage in the car and release in the fields several miles away.

At least that's what I did when I had 4 of the buggers living in my car (of all places for a mouse to live).

Ffs don’t use humane traps they’re anything but. Snap traps wire wool in holes job done

Nodrama999 · 16/02/2019 10:03

You didn’t do anything, we get mice when first frost kicks in (thankfully just in the cellar) they just want somewhere toasty and warm.
I use plug in deterrents, (change in frequency pattern) and buy a set of 4 and have one in each room, don’t opt for the cheap ones, go mid range. Not good if you have pets.
Otherwise, they say to use poison, but make sure you buy the boxes too

eddiemairswife · 16/02/2019 10:10

A cat is the answer to mouse problems.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 16/02/2019 10:17

When we had them we had to use snappy traps I'm afraid, the humane ones were useless. We had a lot of them and it took a few weeks to clear them all. My idiotic dog was completely oblivious to them as well.

Box poison

Don't leave any food out at all, not a crumb. Everything in plastic sealed boxes if necessary. No food = no mice.

Final solution - may be a bit extreme - get a guinea pig or a rabbit. I thought we would get mice with these pets around and with hay and feed about but mice only moved in once they had gone.

bionicnemonic · 16/02/2019 10:43

The humane traps work really well. Nutella or peanut butter then you can drive them a few miles away.
But you will have to check for holes. Anything the diameter of pencil can let them in

ecuse · 16/02/2019 10:50

Nothing but getting professionals in has ever worked for us, and we've tried it all. They have better poison than you can buy over the counter.

The Council pest control team are usually cheap and excellent in my experience.
