Do I need Costco membership if I have Aldi near me ? Wouldn’t really bulk buy in Costco anyway, just want cheap household products etc

I love Aldi!

We had a Costco opened 20 mins drive from us a couple of years ago so went to have a look. Thought it was expensive so haven't been back.

However, my SIL lives in a very affluent expensive area in the South West and she shops at Costco quite a bit.

Perhaps it depends upon where you live.🤔

Costco we shop once every month or so, and do a large shop. Aldi is better for the weekly shop.

Costco works best for bulk purchases. I really don’t think it’s cheaper than Aldi/Lidl, it’s just a very convenient way of buying large quantities and, where there are savings to be made, they come through buying big quantities. You need plenty of storage space to get the most out of a bulk Costco shop. Otherwise, I think Aldi is probably more practical.
That said, Aldi’s whole model relies on there being little choice for the consumer- only one or two varieties of each thing so, if choice between brands is important to you, Costco might be better.

I was dubious about Costco but DH got feee membership with a new job. I’m converted! You do have to spend a lot to start off with because everything’s in bulk, but ultimately you’ll save loads and they only seem to stock good quality products, unlike budget supermarkets which I find to be very hit and miss. Thinks that are particularly good value are cleaning products, soft drinks and stationary.

I think you’ll find they are very different shops in what they offer. I have an Aldi in my turn but prefer to drive the 25 minutes to my closest Costco. It does mean I get my entire food shop though. However, Costco has amazing meats, fish, fruit, salads and so very much more. Before deciding on a membership, see if a friend can bring you in.

Both are so different! I think the only thing they have in common really is that you could leave both Aldi and Costco with a bag of potatoes and a tent Grin

I do our main, weekly shopping at Aldi but I'm a big costco fan, i wouldn't say there's much we exclusively by from Costco other than dog food (We have a giant, greedy wolf-like thing for a pet) because it's excellent quality for a good price, but yet every single time I go to costco I spend about £10 more than intended because I find things I want to buy. I've always found everything they sell in costco to be fantastic quality and great value for money, but not necassarily the cheapest. Some things work out very cheap if you're going to use it all, and others are quite pricey but really good quality. I wouldn't be without our costco membership.
