Best way to clean 100% wool coat?

Have just bought a beautiful vintage 100% wool coat - it smells a little, as vintage stuff does.

What is the best way to clean it? The label states 'Pure New Wool' and shows the no-wash symbol and it has nylon lining.

A quick google says:

Lukewarm water in bath, dry flat

Woollen / delicate cycle in washer with cool water

Can anyone please advise the best way to proceed? Many thanks!

Dry cleaners?

I'd dry clean it

Thanks, it appears to be the safest option - will that get the smell out of it?

I bought a wool and alpaca blend coat with nylon lining. Buttoned it up, turned inside out I think, put inside a sweater bag then on a wool wash 30 degree, with a drop of woolite. No conditioner though. Cleaning would have cost more than the coat, and they sometimes come back stiff and scratchy. Lots of suggestions for doing this when I googled it. Came out lovely. Worth a try.

Washing is a last resort. You risk the main fabric, the lining, the shoulder pads and interlinings all shrinking at different rates.

Dry clean. If it still smells a bit off, get a bottle of cheap vodka (cheapest you can find, expensive doesn't work as well) Dilute with water 50/50 in a spray bottle. Lightly mist inside & out and allow to air dry, outside on a hanger if possible. You may need to repeat this a few times.
