I've had a dyson for 12 years now and it has finally given up the ghost. I need to replace and don't know which one to get now.

It will be used mainly for carpets (unless it definately wouldn't scratch my lovely new hardwood floor). and carpeted stairs.

So I guess I need one - with a long cable, long nozzle, gets under low things and up close to the walls.

Any ideas?

Miele sounds good. Thank you. I think I'll settle for it.

I think you should leave the decision to your cleaning lady

fedda · 05/07/2007 19:46

I don't have a cleaning lady as I can't find a good one so I need to make a decision I'm afraid. So how many people are happy with Miele and which model do you like the best?

Bump

i found on John Lewis site:
Product Information
Miele's 4211 Compact vacuum cleaner is a powerful but quiet cleaner, and suitable for smaller homes or as a secondary machine.

Are you happy with it as the only, not secondary hoover? Would you recommend it for 4 bedroom house with 2 floors? Ta

BrownSuga · 07/07/2007 14:54

OP don't you like dyson? we are looking at the moment, and like the look of the stowaway animal. but are they not all they're cracked up to be?

btw, when going to purchase check out online prices, stowaway for eg is about 300 in stores, but found it for 220 online.

fedda · 07/07/2007 15:00

I have an upright SEBO BS36, Had it for 4 years, still going strong, I will never have another make, its fantastic.

totaleclipse · 07/07/2007 15:54

sebothis is the one I have, its commercial and quite pricey, but well worth it, I have had a dyson in the past, and they are rubbish compared to sebo's.

fedda · 07/07/2007 16:17

i find it a nighmare to have people coming and fixing the machines which tend to break, I'd rather have a relaible make and Dyson was simply awful, i actually couldn't wait for it to break so that I could replace it! I kind of more interested in Miele as I don't like upright hoovers.

My house has 4 bedrooms and 3 floors and my Miele S4211 is fine - I use it daily.

fedda · 07/07/2007 21:45

Do you mean it's fine or excellent? Why do you hoover every day? I hoover 1 - 2 a week and I'm looking for an excellent machine. Is it really, really so good?

sidge · 08/07/2007 22:31

I meant it copes fine with a larger house, whereas the review you quoted said it was more suitable as a second hoover or for smaller homes. I disagree as I think it is perfectly good for a main vac.

I hoover upstairs about twice a week and downstairs daily - large open plan area that needs hoovering often.

fedda · 09/07/2007 09:09

i wish I could be as good as you are. I feel I'm getting lazy in my old age.
