stain removal help needed

I have 2 sofas given to me by a relative that have removable covers on 4 large seat/back cushions

When I got them I took off and washed the top covers but realised there was quite a lot of large old tea and coffee stains on the inner cushions. The top covers came up clean from the washing machine just at 40deg with the tea

To make matters embarrassing I had 2 years of awful periods and accidentally leaked on the sofas more than once. These stains inside and out have been really hard to get off completely.

I have tried everything I can find stain remover wise and they are faded/better on the top covers you would never know unless you looked very closely

I am not intending to get rid of these sofas quite yet but I feel like when I do I would have to scrap them completely because or the inner cushion stains - I would feel gross even giving them to charity like that so I would like to find a solution that will get blood/tea stains out once and for all!

I have tried
Vanish bar
Vanish gold
Upholstery cleaning machine (rubbish)
Bicarbonate and white vinegar
1001 stain remover

The one thing I have tried is bleach (on the inners) as I don’t know how this would turn out... or how to do it carefully

*have not tried bleach!

Dr Beckmann's carpet stain remover sometimes works for stuff like this.

QuestionableMouse · 25/01/2019 00:49

You're over thinking this. No one is going to inspect the inner covers or expect them to be perfect.

PookieDo · 25/01/2019 00:56

As you can see the covers come off it’s likely people will eventually see it and I just don’t feel great about how bad a couple of them are - otherwise they are good sturdy sofas!

Also when I wash the top covers then no one will sit on the inner cushions while the top covers dry because frankly, they look gross

@artisanscotcheggs

Will give it a try!

Do these cushions come off or are they fixed to the sofa?

PookieDo · 25/01/2019 01:10

They come off but they are really big. I haven’t soaked them in the bath as they are too heavy and awkward to then drain of water

You might want to see if you can take them to a laundrette and use the larger machines meant for large duvets. Pre treat the stains and shove them in and it might at least reduce them.

don't put bleach on the cushions. If the cushions are foam they'll melt.
I think you can get mattress cleaning spray.

PookieDo · 25/01/2019 18:10

They are not foam filled. Have tried Dr Beckmann - it smells amazing and has faded them back a bit but not out completely

Pic - not sure this is blood, because it has not reacted like blood does (which goes a darker colour) so assume this may be the tea or coffee.
WTF was BIL doing to these sofas Confused

is this any use

PookieDo · 25/01/2019 18:21

I don’t get it as blood came out of my mattress protector in 30 seconds

I think trying a laundrette is my last option, or just ignore it and save up for a new sofa!

I would use upholstery cleaner/carpet shampoo then put a thick layer of bicarbonate soda on it, leave overnight then brush it off then hoover it.

If that didn't work, I'd put a throw over it and say your BIL spilt something on it.

artisanscotcheggs · 26/01/2019 00:41

Definitely take them to the laundrette. 🌺

artisanscotcheggs · 26/01/2019 00:42

Balls - meant to say, take them to the laundrette and wash them in nothing but soda crystals. Two cups per load.

Surfingtheweb · 26/01/2019 00:45

100% try this. I use it on everything, I dropped nail varnish on the carpet it got the lot out!! Glass of red wine dropped on pale grey sofa, this totally removed it. & huge black marks on velour sofa from hair gel & it got the whole lot out. It's amazing.

Milton sterilising fluid!

Surfingtheweb · 26/01/2019 00:51

Oh just saw the pics of them Shock They do look beyond saving. How about zipping them up in terry mattress protectors? & never un zip them, or go to furniture village & ask how much you can buy new seat pads for?

@Bigonesmallone3 Milton is fantastic. I use the tablets in my home all the time.

PookieDo · 26/01/2019 07:59

I have Milton! What do I do with them?

Dr Beckmann has dried now and stains are lighter

I have bigger fish to fry now - cleaning grout
Cleaning toilet bowls
Cleaning limescale
Cleaning everything!

OP posts:
artisanscotcheggs · 26/01/2019 08:02

White vinegar is your friend for most of that.

Bigonesmallone3 · 26/01/2019 10:28

Get the fluid and poor some on it 🤷‍♀️
I had a stain on my cream rug, came out in seconds..

Or mix with cold water then scrub with it
