I’ve been kondoing for ages and even though I’ve been telling people about it, I’m now irrationally annoyed at all the people who have suddenly discovered it since the new show and are waxing...

I don’t know why I posted, but just wanted to get that off my chest Grin

I'd say that feeling doesn't spark joy, and you should let it go

MadauntofA · 22/01/2019 21:49

Are you not feeling smug for having "been there, done that"?!!

ThunderStorms · 22/01/2019 21:55
Grin

That made me laugh. It must be becUse I’ve enjoyed wafting around in my (mostly) easy to keep tidy house and now others will have the same.

Actually I think it’s because I’ve been trying to share the revelation and no one listened and now after a tv program, they’re all doing it Hmm Wink

I need to come off Facebook Grin

I forgot the extra Grin there - I am not (totally Wink) serious!

Thank goodness for that! I’m not the only one Grin Wine

It's the evangelical fervour with which they explain the concept to you that you already know about.

You don't want to dampen their enthusiasm, but at the same time, you just want to scream "I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DO IT!!" at them.

ThunderStorms · 23/01/2019 00:30

Yes!

OP posts:
Minimincepies · 23/01/2019 00:41

YES! I've recommended it to a few people (mainly friends who have asked how it's possible to have a whirlwind toddler and a tidy house) and nobody seemed to pay much attention until suddenly it's all the rage!
On the plus side, it just gives a good excuse to show off my lovely neat colour-coded vertically-folded wardrobe to newly like-minded people Grin

MadauntofA · 23/01/2019 05:58

Is anyone getting annoyed at those who haven't bothered to read the book and therefore don't really get it? I heard a news story the other week discussing the outrage that MK was telling people to throw all their books away Hmm

LikeACowsOpinion · 23/01/2019 06:22

I don't understand her method and I hear everyone talking about it.

Does it actually work? Is it a really regimented routine? Will it change my life?

I tried to watch the programme on Netflix but it was so American I couldn't get through it - plus it didn't help me to make any sense of her method.

Anyone?

Amazonian27 · 23/01/2019 06:43

I watched one episode and found her voice very annoying.
I have cleared out my wardrobe (putting things on eBay and putting some in charity bags) and my make up draws since but couldn’t get the hang of the folding.

MadauntofA · 23/01/2019 07:14

What I took from it was I didn't need half the stuff I had, particularly all the clothes that were making me feel guilty and weren't being worn (those "I will one day slim down into them" type, or the many many clothes passed on from DM). It also made me realise that all those items that I really didn't like but felt I had to keep them because they were gifts could be passed on. The "everything has a space" also made a lot of sense.
The folding is up to you - the jumpers I have done make it much easier to see what I have and therefore either wear most of my stuff or get rid of those I am constantly passing over. I don't bother with socks etc as I just don't see the point.
It's not going to change your life massively, but for me cleaning is much easier, I can find what I'm looking for most of the time, dressing is less stressful, and I feel much more relaxed going to bed in a relatively clutter free environment

MadauntofA · 23/01/2019 07:18

I still have clutter by the way, but it is much easier to "see" it and therefore deal with it. I'm also much less likely to buy something on a whim.

Porridgeoat · 23/01/2019 07:24

My boys and I were laughing about this the other day. We did Marie Kondo years ago. The book gives more rounded info. The series is drawn out and more a spin off without much theory

CocoLoco87 · 23/01/2019 07:53

We've been ramming it down our friends throats recommending it for ages. Now everyone is telling me about this great show on Netflix and Angry we don't have Netflix! I had to learn the method from the book and a lot of hours on youtube!

ThunderStorms · 23/01/2019 19:43

Is anyone getting annoyed at those who haven't bothered to read the book and therefore don't really get it? I heard a news story the other week discussing the outrage that MK was telling people to throw all their books away

Yes! And they scoff about things she hasn’t said - she doesn’t say throw everything out! She says keep what sparks joy in you (or has a practical use). And they scoff about 'sparks joy', but actually I found that certain items did spark an emotion - actually for me it was often a negative emotion, then I knew it had to go.

And also everything @CocoLoco87 said!

NamedyChangedy · 23/01/2019 20:32

Haha - I know what you mean OP, but I see it as a good thing! I read her first book when it came out and our clothes have all been Konmari style for years. Nice that people are catching on now, I'm not such an oddity!

AlisonWunderland · 23/01/2019 20:39

I Kondoed my house 3 years ago (with the help of MN) and am just waiting for some friend to enthuse about it despite the fact I've been vertically folding my pants for ages!
I haven't watched the program but saw a clip or 2 but I'm not sure how well the entire ethos will come across.
I actually never read the book because I'd been warned that it might be a bit woo for me but I must have read dozens on blogs by people on their process. Plus there was a great thread running here at the time which was really helpful and encouraging
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/2564756-Kondo-thread-10?pg=1&order=
I think the house needs a refresher Kondo because I realise that things are drifting away from where they are meant to live, and getting lost or untidy

BBTHREE76 · 24/01/2019 00:29

Yep me too. Started kondoing 2 or 3 years ago, clothes are still folded, and my underwear and sock drawer particularly sparks joy every single day. 👍🏻 I watched the series on Netflix as I love Marie and knew I would enjoy it. But.... with some of the steps being missed, and Marie giving them instructions then clearing off, the series isn’t anywhere near as informative as the book. Maries methods totally changed my house and my outlook, but that was from the book years ago, not the recent show.
