Dyeing to ask...

I have had mixed results with dyeing. Following the instructions to the letter usually gives great results, and a pack of Velvet Black has been a revelation. No more faded black clothes.

Could I dye a pale pink cotton corduroy garment from primark to a shade that is more 'me'? It's a light dirty pink colour. My concern is that the thread might be polyester.

Any suggestion for the colour, and if you think I can risk it, please?
It's the drabness of the colour that I dislike. I like bright colours and black.
I could return the item but it is ok apart from the colour.
Thanks.

I dye lots of fabrics and textiles as I do a lot of sewing, patchwork, etc. You are right to think the garment will have been sewn together with polyester thread. This will definitely not take the dye colour. Any top stitching on collars, cuffs, buttonholes etc will be very obvious (as I found to my cost some years ago) after you dye the garment.

I have very successfully used the Dylan Jeans dye to refresh jeans. The thread used is always dark on jeans (whereas it is either white or clear thread on everything else) so this is not a problem. Sorry not to have been more helpful.

Dye the item, then sharpie over the polyester thread.

I've mixed Dylon pods dyes when I couldn't find the colour I wanted - I put some grey with the bright pink for a deep, dusky pink colour when dyeing some towels. I think undyed polyester thread is one of those things a lot of people won't even notice.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'd be limited to only slightly changing the colour. I've found some antique grey dylon in the cupboard - I'll try the item on again and decide whether to return the item or risk it.
I often dye towels and the thread is usually dye-resistant.
