How to get limescale crust off bottom of shower screen

The bottom of our shower screen - where the glass meets the seal -
has a crust of limescale that never comes off. Viakal does a good job on the glass, but is too liquid to stick onto the crusty bit long enough to dislodge it. What can I do to get this stuff off? I've tried a cocktail stick, a scrubber, bleach, Viakal... nothing makes it budge!

Lay cotton wool pleat along, soak in white vinegar and leave overnight then wipe away. Works beautifully for sparkling taps and plugs too.

Thanks. How do you stick the cotton wool on? The seal doesn't create enough of a ledge to hold it there. Maybe some cling film might work? I'll experiment!

Have you tried a brillo pad as opposed to a nylon scrubber? I use viakal then a brillo pad.

Spray with white vinegar and use a freezer scraper then nail file/fine sandpaper to loosen. Repeat as required.

You'll find once you've soaked it in the vinegar you can mould it around and it will cling well

This is good - it's like a thick 'glue' that you paste on with the brush that's included - then rinse off

I replaced the seal, as the manky crustiness had got right into it. £12 from wickes for a new length, cut to size, take old one off and slide new one on. And I took the opportunity to scrape and viakal all along the bottom bit where it had formed a ledge.

HollowTalk · 18/01/2019 22:11

Oh brilliant, GrandOldDuke - that's exactly what I've been looking for!

Heat some vinegar until very hot. Mix with same quantity of washing up liquid.

Spray on to limecale. Rinse and repeat every night.

When clean, maintain with a quick spray, leave 10 mins and clean every time you do the shower.

Or Kilrock gel. Both have worked for me.
