Can I save mouldy boots?

I have a pair of knee high leather boots that I hadn't worn for a while. Got them out to wear them now colder and they smell really mouldy/musty inside. No visible mould.

Any ideas to kill any mould get rid of the smell without damaging the boots? Would be a shame to bin them.

1 cup of water to 1 cup of vinegar to clean the outside.

The lining can be difficult. You can use a dish soap water solution with a soft brush and scrub. Then just clean water with a cloth and wipe repeatedly to remove all traces of soap. Or just use a soft brush or cloth with warm water and keep wiping.

Spray with white vinegar, inside and out. Wipe off excess and leave to dry. You could wipe the inside with surgical spirit if they still smell.

Could white vinegar be used on suede safely? (Sorry to jump on your thread OP!)

I've not tried but I would try steam first. Suede doesn't like being wet.

Bicarbonate of soda is good at removing smells. Put in dry shoes and leave overnight.

Yes. White vinegar on a cloth and gently rub the suede, then use a suede brush to give them a clean up after.

Thank you both!
