But NONE of my clothes spark joy?!

For anyone who has read the book/watched the show, what do you do if you are 6 months post partum and still wearing clothes you would rather not be wearing? If I base what clothes I'm going to keep/throw away on whether or not they spark joy, I will be left with nothing to wear? I'd love to ask Marie this question.

You need to go shopping Grin

Go naked and blame her when approached? This more relates to your perception of your body, as opposed to your outfits though. That involves a change of mind set, not a wardrobe over haul. If I kept o my the clothes that made me happy......it would be everything I didn't currently fit as I hate my body and nothing I currently cover it in makes me happy. That's not the clothes fault though.

MadauntofA · 08/01/2019 21:11

If you can't afford to replace your wardrobe, or don't want to if you are planning on losing weight, then accept that your clothes won't spark joy, but are a temporary necessity. Not everything you own is going to spark joy, but at least you can remove those things that you never wear regardless what size you are/ those clothes that just depress you when you see them in the wardrobe because you will never fit into them!

AfterSchoolWorry · 08/01/2019 21:13

Marie is about a size zero. She will never have encountered such a problem before. To me I've learned to accept less from clothes.

I don't expect 'joy' but if they cover my bellies and are clean and useful then that'll do! 😝

chordFire · 08/01/2019 21:14

Isn't there an exception for practical things?

Soiree · 08/01/2019 21:18

She is so petite and has such lovely clothes. I am 5 months post partum and am happy if there is no sick currently on me. I gave accepted that my current wardrobe is a necessity rather than a joy, but it's temporary, just a part of the short stage I am currently in.

If I floated about in cream jumpers and expensive skirts it would just be more obvious when I had puke and leaked breastmilk on me!

Jamhandprints · 08/01/2019 21:19

Yes, I'm in exactly the same situation! I've decided to replace my clothes little by little with things I actually like! For me it will be buying charity shop/eBay stuff as i am still carrying baby weight and breastfeeding, so dont want to spend much on clothes.

LearningMySelfWorth · 08/01/2019 21:37

I get that OP, rather than sparking joy I go with, is this item of clothing functional for the setting I'll wear it or I feel smart in this. But thats because the only clothing that bring me joy is pjs and apparently those are not everyday outwear Grin

buckeejit · 08/01/2019 21:38

This is me, (although 5 years postpartum 😂)

Go through all the other stuff & ask would it spark joy if it fitted?

mummabubs · 08/01/2019 21:50

I finally bit the bullet and got rid of a solid 75% of my wardrobe at the weekend using the KonMarie method but I'm already aware that some of what I've kept doesn't necessarily spark joy as such, but more that it's the only swampy stuff I have that hides my post baby belly (and I'm 14 months post partum!) 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm telling myself that maybe I don't actually need many clothes at all and the real trick will be to stop buying new clothes unless they truly bring me joy (I'm a good one for buying clothes that I think are 'ok' rather than amazing, even more so post-baby!)

Stompythedinosaur · 09/01/2019 09:33

I definitely interpreted "sparks joy" as "don't hate wearing as much" when it came to clothes.

Bumblebee39 · 18/01/2019 20:02

Ooh I want to start doing this. I find that even though I don't necessarily like the size of or shape of my clothes, there are still reasons they spark joy.

The colour of my maternity jeans
The loose comfortable fit of a jumper
The colour and material of a top

I haven't started sorting my house out accordingly but I have stopped buying things that don't spark joy

Turns out a lot of things do spark joy though and they are all so much more expensive than the stuff I usually buy.
