Shareable shopping list app

What is the best, ideally free, shopping list app? I want the rest of the family to be able to add to the list directly, rather than asking me to add it or writing in down somewhere only for it to get lost.

I already use AnyList but wondered if there was something better out there.

I use the free version of AnyList. But it's £12 per year for a family version I think.

We use FamCal. Haven't tried any others but does the job for us.

MarchSurprise · 07/01/2019 16:53

We use OurGroceries. Updates immediately and when we get something it disappears off the list. I love it! Now just need a chore list version...

Spam88 · 07/01/2019 21:51

I assume others do it as well, but on famcal you can tick things off and they disappear but then you can untuck everything to add them back on. So I have for different weekly shopping lists set up that I can tick off and then just reset the next month. Also use it for things like my daughter's nursery bag list.

I just use Google keep - you can share lists with another Google account?

chloechloe · 07/01/2019 21:58

I use Wunderlist.

I use the sevenlogics app called family organizer (with the us spelling). It has a shared calendar, to do lists that can be assigned to days/times/ people, can have multiple checklists/ shopping lists, and there is a recipe section (not used that yet). It also notifies you of items on the to do list/ activities.

MarshMarigold · 07/01/2019 22:24

Thanks for the suggestions. I've downloaded FamCal for now and will see if that will work for us and if not I'll work through the other ideas. I just need everyone to use it now.

Just to be clear, sharing lists in AnyList is totally free. You can share a list by going to a list, then tap on the "..." button in the upper right, then tap on "Share, Email & Print". Once you do that, any changes made by one person will be instantly visible to everyone.

The paid upgrade to AnyList Complete is only necessary if you want to unlock advanced features. Simply sharing a list is free.

We use the Bring app which also works with Alexa so you can add stuff as and when you need to. If you buy anything it disappears off the list but remembers everything so easy to a-list.

BoffinMum · 09/01/2019 06:17

This all sounds really interesting. If I digitised the monthly menu plans and linked shopping lists on my Austerity Housekeeping blog free for readers, which would be the best app for something like this? Obviously it wouldn’t work if things were disappearing off the main list as other people bought them.

Helspopje · 09/01/2019 06:26

I use the standard note on the iPhone and ‘share’ it with DH

MissElaineNeus · 09/01/2019 06:32

We used the free version of AnyList for a while - you can share lists - and I think its sync at the supermarket when you are both filling the same trolley is the best I've tried. We've actually now stumped up for the paid version. I wish it wasn't so recipe focused though.

HerestoyouMrsRobinson · 09/01/2019 06:39

We all just add whatever to the trolley in our online shopping app, I love Asda ❤️

cortex10 · 09/01/2019 07:16

We use Bring

MarshMarigold · 11/01/2019 20:05

I've been using FamCal for a few days and it seems to be working well for us. I like the way I can share Calendar dates as well as shopping lists, and find the layout clear and user friendly.

I wasn't keen on the way AnyList looked, not that it changes the functionality, just a personal preference and also for me it was too obviously American - zucchini/courgette etc. A bit late for me, but good to know even the free version can be shared.

Thanks to everyone who suggested other apps and ideas.

We have Bring (but secretly I like paper because I can write my list in Fruit/Veg/Chilled/Frozen/Pantry/Bakery/Household )

Bring is good if I just randomly think of something, or if I;m driving , I tell someone to put it on there

MissElaineNeus · 14/01/2019 06:46

AnyList has categories like that, 70is.
