Help! Can my curtains be rescued?

DH took some silk curtains to the dry cleaners and they’ve been in storage for a month or so while we were redecorating. I’ve just hung them and it looks like the dry cleaning has shrunk them. They won’t hang straight, the lining sticks out under the fabric, and the hem is wonky.

I’m absolutely furious and really sad too. I love the fabric and we got them made to measure with a thermal lining so cost a fortune. I’m desperate to find a way to rescue our beautiful curtains. Any one been in a similar situation and had a happy outcome?

We had similar. The dry cleaners did warn me it might happen. I put them up anyway and meant to let the hem down or add a border but haven’t gotten around to it. That was two years ago!

Only think I could suggest is to let the hem down if there is one or add a contrasting border along the bottom.

I'd be going back to the dry cleaners and complaining about that. They've shrunk them Angry

Going back to the dry cleaners isn't going to fix them though. Its not just the hems, the entire front has shrunk so the lining doesn't hang properly on the sides either, it is all wrinkled like a really badly made bias cut dress. Its shrunk about 2inches so even if the entire hem was let down its not long enough to reach the floor like it did before

Well no, but I'd have thought they'd have to compensate you in some way. Unless they warned you in advance of the risks. Like a pp said, adding a contrasting border to the hem might be a solution.

Perhaps unpick the side seam and the hem, so you can get rid of the creases, then if the shrinkage isn't too severe, restitch the seams and hem after adjusting the lining. If needs be, you can add a contrasting border to the hem for added depth.
Such a shame, it looks like lovely fabric. I know I'd be dreadfully upset!
