i don't want to have to tumble dry or run to my washing machine the second it finishes. does this mean i can't get away with not ironing?

put the clothes in the dryer for the first 15 mins. after you wash them.

then peg them out.

they'll be soft and wrinkle free.

nappyaddict · 27/06/2007 23:17

we don't have a drier atm on account of it going to tumble drier heaven!!

if i am solely line drying is it a must to get it out of the washing machine asap?

I don't iron. I use easy iron softener and flatten everything out before I hang it up. It is best to get it out of the machine ASAP though (although I have been known to leave it overnight).

MrsScavo · 27/06/2007 23:19

No, use fabric softener, then give the clothes a good shake before you hang them up. The only things that are ironed oaround herre are DH's work shirts and DD best dresses.

nappyaddict · 27/06/2007 23:20

ah see i'm awkward. can't use fabric softener cos both me and ds are allergic.

Not much really needs ironing. An old trick I heard about it to take the garment, hang it in the bathroom and have a hot shower - the steam will help the creases drop out.

nappyaddict · 27/06/2007 23:30

but do you take it out of the washer as soon as it finishes? this is my problem as i put the washing on then i quite often will have to go out and leave it to wash.

Hmm,I'm not covinced.
I iron everything.
Nowl like slipping into freshly ironed sheets.
Heaven.

ComeOVeneer · 27/06/2007 23:33

i DO THE BARE MINIMUM OF IRONING(oops), and send dh's shirts out to be done. I have been known to take something out the wardrobe, notice it is slightly creased and take my hairstraightners to it, sems to do the trick.

ComeOVeneer · 27/06/2007 23:35

Agree Moondog re sheets and table cloths, but most clothes (apart from linen) can general avoid the iron.

deestingsduznotappen · 28/06/2007 00:11

You don't need to iron nuffin!

Take out garment from washing machine (days after it has finished if you want), shake it and then look at the garment and ask yourself 'Will this look this creased after a couple of hours of wearing?' If the answer is yes, don't iron it, if the answer is no, give it to a charity shop!

The trick is often in the hanging!!!

A friend told me that traditionally (when we washed clothes in rivers etc. we ironed clothes to kill of bugs).

nappyaddict · 28/06/2007 00:23

a couple of hours is a long time to be walking around with creases though!!

what about shirts. can you get away with not ironing those if you dont have a tumble drier?
