Robot Vacuum Recommendations?

Just that really... looking for one... can't really spend more than £300, but obviously want to get the most out of my budget.

I know I won't get all the bells and whistles at that sort of price point, but hopefully still something useful that makes a difference day-to-day. I have a great cordless hoover so hoping a robovac will help make manual hoovering a quicker, easier job. Currently I feel like I'm not quite keeping on top of it myself! Life about to get more hectic too as second child is imminent.

I want something I can move between upstairs and downstairs easily enough. House is a reasonable size (four bed), but not huge. Mix of carpets and hard floors, so ideally needs to be able to go from one to another (we don't have any thick rugs just normal carpet). House not open plan, so can use doors to keep robovac in one room if necessary.

Thinking of a Eufy, as they seem quite popular, but always interested in personal accounts.

TIA

I bought a Eufy RoboVac R550C (11c) from myrobotcentre in early December. It is the pet version.

I have a very hairy yellow lab and it just can’t cope. I have a cordless Dyson and fill it once a day downstairs.

I thought that Eufy would save me having to do it but the collection box just isn’t big enough (maybe ¼ of the Dyson). My idea was that it would do a 2pm vacuum daily.

The first room it starts in (snug) is carpeted and is 14 x 10 and the box is full by the time it has done it, then it moves on to the hallway and downstairs cloakroom and big kitchen diner (everywhere else is hard flooring).

By the time it has done the snug it is full, spewing out stuff it has collected on its journey and not picking up at all.

Myrobotcentre have a 30 day try at home returns policy so I am sending it back. Shame as I love the idea.

Myrobotcentre have sent me a prepaid label, hopefully a refund will be easy - so far good to deal with.

That's a shame Twiglet! But at least you can send it back. We don't have any pets so I wonder if that makes a difference to how quickly they fill up?

I know there is a model of Roomba that is self-emptying, which sounds awesome. But unfortunately it's at the very upper end of the price spectrum. If only I had unlimited funds...

I have a xiaomi mi vacuum. Currently still only available from Chinese websites like gearbest, banggood, geekbuying and Ali express but they have recently established an online presence in the UK and a store in westfield so may start selling from the UK soon. I bought mine from China for around £210 but managed to escape the customs fee (luck, probably though some sites are better than others). Takes a couple of weeks to arrive. Can't praise it highly enough, have had it about 16 months and it deals successfully with the hair from a retriever and 2 collies (plus a cat). I run it every day. Before that I had 3 neatos which were twice the price and broke within a couple of months. They were replaced under warranty until the 4th time the warranty company refunded me! Don't think they could cope with the hair quite so well!

I have the Roomba and have been happy with it - bought from eBay

From these type of threads I've worked out people tend to buy them and then not use them so they are always coming up at s good price

Twigletaddict · 02/01/2019 20:02

I searched endlessly before I bought the one I did. The Eufy pet has a 0.6l dust box, the xiaomi mi has a 0.42l dust box.

My Dyson animal cordless has a 0.76l dust box.

I have filled my Dyson 1.5 times today in the area where Eufy covered as I was at home and vacuumed twice.

I would buy another one if I could find a bigger dust box but definitely recommend the place I bought from so far.

smallchair · 02/01/2019 20:11

I do generally empty the dust box after every use on the mi, but I've never ever had it stop mid - clean because it's too full. It compacts the hair and carpet fluff pretty well in the dust box. It's very quick and simple to empty

I've got the cheapest Roomba. It does a great job, is robust and holds a good charge.

Twigletaddict · 02/01/2019 20:15

I wanted something to vacuum downstairs while I am at work small, if something can’t cope with the whole floor then I figure I might as well carry on with my Dyson.

riotlady · 02/01/2019 22:15

We have the eufy robovac and it’s great at picking up cat hair and baby related crumbs! I don’t usually expect it to do the whole flat, I just set it off in whatever room looks like it needs doing.

MissisBoote · 02/01/2019 22:19

I have a roomba and love it.
I bought it on eBay as a customer return from ao.com
We have two cats and it happily does upstairs and downstairs twice a week. I empty it after it's done a floor. I don't use the auto programme function as I'm too scared to leave it alone before doing a quick look around in case of rare cat accidents.

ChishandFips33 · 13/01/2019 09:53

I wouldn't be put off by the dust boxes being small. You'll likely find you set it away more often do it negates the issue

MommOfTwo · 26/04/2019 22:00

Roomba mommy here too. We run it once every two days and has been a timesaver. With kids and all, it has become difficult for me to still sweep. If my son is asleep, I need to sleep too, if I won't, he'll be up and I'm still exhausted. Although it would have been better if all roombas get an update to have their machines be more silent when cleaning. It's really noisy and sometimes wakes my son :( Vacuuming wise, for me, it's good. I found this, thought might be helpful.

MiniMum97 · 27/04/2019 23:06

I have a £200 roomba 605 and it's brilliant. Think it was on special offer a few years ago though so not sure whether they still offer one around that price point. I prefer one without all the bells and whistles as I think less to go wrong. I also didn't want one with a timer as you have to empty the bin each time and tidy first anyway, plus I heard some horror stories about pooing or puking animals and the robot hoover smearing it all over the house!

GummyGoddess · 27/04/2019 23:11

We have a xiaomi one too, I love it. It has a little map on its app so you can see where it's been, you can send it to do zone clean ups as well. We have moved it upstairs but found it was quickest to shut it in rooms rather than it navigating the hallway.

After upstairs it needs to be set on a full downstairs clean to be able to do zone cleaning again.

If you spill cheerios all over the kitchen floor you can just summon it and it will clear them all up for you while you continue wrestling children into their clothes, it's great! DH also summons it to him in the kitchen to empty it but that's him being lazy!
