Has anyone ever bought a shredder that actually works??

and doesn't overheat and jam itself full of paper?

I've had three and all have been useless .. even if I've patiently fed in one sheet at a time. I'm only talking about shredding basic household stuff - bank statements etc.

Would I just be wasting my money buying another?

Watching with keen interest....

Swordfish.

We have one at work after going through several cheaper brands. You still have to be patient though and not ram too much in at once.

Ours hasn’t never been troublesome at all. It’s not a budget one though and I don’t tend to put more than ten sheets at a time through.

Have a basic Rymans one. It's been fine for 18 years but I think needs a good clean now. It does need a rest when the box gets full.

We have a Woolworths basic one that's about 15 years old and still works well.
I appreciate that's no help whatsoever though sorry Blush Grin

That swordfish one looks great HCHQ .. a bit more than I wanted to spend but maybe that's the problem. TBH the three I've bought probably cost that much added together and would have been more efficient and less frustrating!

I've been buying mine from Staples. Maybe Rymans is worth a try. And one sheet at a time and not letting it overheat ...

It's worth buying the cleaning oil to lubricate the blades and keep it working smoothly. Once a month (usually less frequent here) is recommended so a pack a year.

Thanks for the tip Xing - I hadn't heard of cleaning oil for shredders, however looking at them online now I see it's sometimes suggested.

I spend the expensive shredders like the swordfish @highlandcoo

They are big bucks, but I've had my shredder for years now (can't remember the model but near identical to the swordfish in the link) and it never overheats and can shred for an hour at a time. It was around £100.

If you want a good one that lasts years spend the money, you won't be disappointed
