If anybody has some tips or information on getting rats out of your home dead or alive I will be grateful.
A rat has gained access through our tumble dryer hose vent- which I now know to be completely inadequate. (A steel replacement vent with metal mesh inner arrives today. )
It is in a cavity I think-(can heat it intermittently,) behind a cupboard in my brand new kitchen cupboard. I have tried to remove the inner back of the cupboard, but can’t get to this cavity that seems to be somehow involved with a supporting goal post style steel. There is a notch cut out of the sink cupboard where the washing machine pipe passes into the sink waste and that’s where it’s cunningly hidden itself. It has itself away by the fact that it’s dragged in plastic bags which were rustling.i stupidly removes the bag that was sticking out- should have left it to detect rustling. I’ve also seen two droppings in kitchen floor.
I have an old fashioned trap in a small bin in the undersink cupboard, it’s managed to trigger but not get trapped. So I’ve put poison out last night in the same bin which seems untouched. Several taps around the kitchen floor areas.
Do I remove the bin now and just leave it the option of the poison. The pest control people are saying aroun 300.00 which is out of our budget. They say they would leave the entry point open, put poison down and then when the poison takes effect the rat should go out via the entry point. So that’s what we have done the last 24 hours. I have card sticky traps arriving today to dot around the place. Any tips would be welcome.

Gice the poison time. The rat will come eat it soon then go away to die.

Get a professional in! I farted around trying to do it myself when mice found a similar route into my home. Completely unsuccessful! I then found a pest control man who charged about £60 and came back 3 times to make sure the problem was solved. Best £60 I ever spent!

Rats are new phobic so it will take for them to go for the bait. Make sure you’ve left enough poison down. Don’t trap the rat in the house. You need to get it out.

Have you tried your council? Many have pest services but deal with rats for free.

Our council direct you to a private company. Think I may get professionals in- it’s seriously stressing me out now. Thanks all.
