Ah! Any tips on getting candle smoke off walls? We've signed a contract to not light candles and I didn't think anyone would know and now I have black marks going up my wall! Please help!!!

Or try a dry bread slice.

Magic sponge - it’ll be gone without a trace

canibehereifimnotamum · 12/12/2018 22:12

I've actually ordered some magic sponges so I'm glad you said that because I wasn't sure!! They're coming on Monday so hopefully waiting won't make a difference?

No, with a magic sponge you should be fine. Just damp it (not wet) and rub lightly over the stain. Never had something it doesn’t fix.

Sliced white bread works. The cheap stuff that you can roll into little balls, not posh artisan 😁

canibehereifimnotamum · 12/12/2018 22:31

Amazing thank you. Never heard of the bread one! Will give that a go!

Candle smoke causes gradual smoke stains in the corners of the ceilings, even if you don’t get an obvious black line close to the candle.

ginyogarepeat · 12/12/2018 22:37

If it's Yankee candles that have caused it they're known amongst painters/decorators to be a major income source! Bloody awful things.

Sorry - not much help!

Loyaultemelie · 12/12/2018 22:37

Yes bread really does work! I'm terrible for doing this dh has got to the stage he just rolls his eyes when he sees me light them now

mineofuselessinformation · 12/12/2018 22:54
Hmm
OldSpeclkledHen · 13/12/2018 15:05

Oh brilliant!! I have this problem and was thinking I needed to repaint the whole lounge!! Once I've stopped ignoring the smoke stain 😳

SantyClaws · 13/12/2018 15:08

Magic eraser sponge things are amazing. I got sharpie off a varnished mantelpiece once.

Also in future make sure you trim the wick before you re-light it to stop it smoking

wowfudge · 16/12/2018 19:04

When we moved into our house there was a room that was filthy with candle smoke. The sellers had left us a note saying it was down to the antique light fittings which they'd replaced with cheap new ones from B&Q once they'd taken the ones we were expecting to find in the room.

If you can't clean it off, bear in mind soot is greasy so if you repaint you'll need a stain stop paint before you emulsion.
