Green energy

Trying to make sense of the energy comparison sites when all the sites seem to claim they'll save me money even though they appear to have higher unit charges then my current one... plus my old meter reads in cubic ft and my elec is Economy 7 so day and night is different it's so confusing!
Anyhow has anyone had good experiences with Green energy suppliers? - that bit I'm committed to. or fixing for a year or more...

We've switched to Ovo, they've been great apart from badgering me to read my meter for them occasionally since they don't send anyone round. No problems.

Thanks Xiaoxiong I'll take a look

We have used Green Energy since 2002 with no problems. They do a partially renewable and completely renewable tarif for electricity and have fairly recently started doing renewable gas too. They have just locked in their prices for this winter - guaranteed not to go up until the spring at the earliest.

I've just been doing research on green energy as we want to switch away from our current (Big 6) supplier.

As far as I can see www.greenenergyuk.com/OurEnergy is the only one I've come across that does 100% renewable gas.

They are 100% renewables in electricity and gas.

Their gas comes from (amongst other things) pig waste products (farts/manure)

It's not cheaper but I think it's worth paying extra for the way they operate.

We signed up with the Martin Lewis website energy comparison service.
Our fixed-rate deal with our current energy provider is just about to end.
The Martin Lewis recommendation is Bulb Energy, all renewable and should save us around £500 compared with our old deal (no gas here, electric only). New provider should come on stream on 31st December.

hi rslsys - that's a good suggestion - will look into it, many thanks

I was with Octopus Energy. They've been great - just submit a gas and electric reading each month and they generate a bill. I have now switched to Bulb. No idea what they are like yet but there are good reviews about their customer service. I found them using comparison websites (I believe I used Energy Club to switch to Bulb). Another cheap energy suppliers that commonly popped up on the comparison website is Avro and Utility Point.

MrsGollach · 11/12/2018 21:37

@rslsys , sadly Bulb are not "all renewable". We looked at them too.
All the mainstream companies use renewable electricity (hydro etc) but I think the only 100% renewable gas company is Green Energy. We felt we needed to support companies like this so that more of the same happens. Pig farms etc!

I'm sure Bulb is much better than dealing with the Big 6, but as far as I see, Green Energy seems to be the only one that is using 100% renewable gas. I like how it sounds and I'm going to give it a go. The price of gas/electricity we spend (3 bedroom house) is about £4 a day. That's just over a cup of coffee a day if you buy one out and about.

I rest my case.

@MrsGollach Agree about Bulb on the gas front (we don't have gas) but they claim to be 100% on electricity. My original post phrasing was a little clumsy!
