Oilcloth & Stains

We have oilcloth on our kitchen table, it's a godsend with young DC, messy eating, craft etc etc... The only thing is it stains so badly, things like pasta sauce especially - is there anything I could use to treat it to stop it staining? It isn't cheap so I don't want to replace it unnecessarily! Or is there a better brand that won't stain so much?! Thanks MN! x

Following - I have both expensive and cheap sorts and it's all stained orange from bolognese 🙄

At least it's not just me! Agree some of them are really expensive and other than the dreaded orange they can last ages! Let's hope someone has a solution :)

I clicked on this hoping for a solution. We have oilcloth and it has the dreaded orange stains, that resists even bleach spray. I just buy super cheap ones now and change them once the stains are so bad we can no longer ignore them!!

I have an expensive oilcloth - it's 9 years old now and has had all sorts on it - fortunately is most stains disappear after a while with the usual daily cleaning but a few stubborn ones need removing (like biro and yellow curry stains). I use (very sparingly) a paint thinner my DDad recommended, that you can get in Lidl (the brand is Baufix). The original tin I got 9 years ago is still over 3/4 full, which shows how little is needed to lift the most stubborn stains.

Brilliant! Thanks for the recommendation! I will try that :)

I use Revive Power Paste (£6.90) on Amazon and it removes things like pasta stains and is brilliant on other things in the house too.

Thank you @Pennantcottage
