Washing machine capacity

Is a 10kg capacity washer-dryer too big?

Our current machine has 5kg maximum for cottons cycle and 2.5kg max for easy-care cycle. A little bigger might be useful for bedding and towels, but with clothes we rarely have enough laundry of one sort (darks/whites/etc) to need to do two consecutive loads of the same sort. Plus you need the hanging space.

Is it wasteful to do half-loads? The machines we like all have very high capacities.

No. Mine takes 11Kg and it's great.

What is great about it? (Erm, not meant to sound sarcastic!)

I can wash loads in it. Even rugs, curtains and bedspreads.

Lots would be something like a week's worth of clothes for 1. Jeans, t-shirts etc.
I hang things outside or indoors. Hate this time of year.

Better to do full loads. I wash all white in one load and then lights and darks separately. In the unlikely event that I don't have a full load, I mx lights and darks (never whites) at 40 so no colour runs.

I wouldn't buy a large capacity machine if I didn't have enough laundry to fill it.

They're good and worth it, if you will fill it. I gave my Dsis my 12kg washer as I found I wasn't always filling it and she would make far better use of it than me.

I went down to a 9kg which was a good happy medium.

I would do just over half load but do not fill the entire drum. I have a 9kg and that is plentiful for me. I also like it because it fits a king-size duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases so I can wash all my bedding in one go. It also fits my king-size 4.5 tog duvet lol which I wash every summer BlushGrin

I’ve got a 9kg machine, but it weighs the load as it washes so if it needs to it will reduce the water used and the cycle length. I’d never go back to a small capacity machine, there are four of us and the children generate a ridiculous amount of dirty underwear and school uniform, so the machine is used most days, sometimes more than once.
